Does exercise decrease resting calories?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My resting calories are ~2000/day which are also the total calories burned/day if I don't exercise.

I have noticed that if I exercise (I use Fitbit Coach) it does sync up well, but the total calories burned/day remain the same (i.e. 2000/day on exercise and on no-exercise days) so it almost makes it look like my resting calories decrease on days that I exercise? Can someone please explain if this is right? And why this is the case?

Thanks.

That would not explain it.  If there is any such effect, it would be small and it would not be something seeing day-to-day, but a long-term gradual efffect.

Is your workout getting tracked so you can look at calories burned during it?

I suggest looking at the daily calories burned graph on the fitbit.com dashboard to see the calories burned, particularly during the time you were working out and look for any clues there.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Yes @Entropically over time as you're heart gets stronger and more efficient,  your BMR will decrease.  However Fitbit will not detect this change and continue to use the same formula to determine the BMR, which does not take overall fitness into consideration

I think @JohnnyRow is on the right path.
