Fitbit steps dropping

Just had about 8,000 steps to start my day. WATCHED my Fitbit drop to 4,000.. so I go to sync it back to my phone and watch the 8k drop to 4K. This is the second charge 2 Fitbit I have had within the year warranty. Anyone else having this issues? Very frustrating

Factory reset it about 3 times.. to only have the battery drop 30%.

Hi, @Jaclyncav, I am glad that worked to restore your steps!

It sounds like you were counting on "SmartTrack" to capture your workout.  While SmartTrack usually works quite well, sometimes, especially if your activity is only partly step-based, it will not always capture all of it.  I expect that is why you had that issue.

Since you have a Charge 2 you have the option of using the "multisport mode" on your Fitbit to start and stop your activity.  That way you will be sure to get the whole workout and will only need to create a manual log if you forget to wear your Fitbit.  That way you won't have this issue again.  For more information, please see this help article on the multi-sport mode.

(I use it to track all my workouts, runs and yoga classes and it's great.  I let SmartTrack detect my walks, because it is usually quite accurate for that.)

I hooe this helps!

Hi, @Jaclyncav, the most usual reason for steps dropping is if you have manually logged an activity.  A manual log will delete steps detected by the Fitbit during the same time frame.  Deleting the manual log will restore them.

Steps can also be "lost" if you have more than one tracker on your account and you do not sync BOTH trackers before switching between them.

Could either of these explain what you are seeing?

I did manually enter in a workout for this morning- my Fitbit hasn’t been capturing the entire workout so I added it. Has anyone been having this issue as well?

I just deleted it and it seemed to do the trick!!! Thanks so much.

I just got my Charge 3 yesterday...after I finished shoveling 9 inches of snow off my deck, I showed 6000 plus steps...suddenly at 1 or 2 this afternoon, it now shows 251 steps. I didn't manually log any activity.

Any ideas?

Hi, @khatlover, do you have more than one Fitbit on your account?

The most usual explanation for what you describe is if you have two or more Fitbits and you switch between the two without completely syncing so that both Fitbits reflect all steps.  Could this be what happened?

This is like my 3rd Fitbit....but I set up a whole new account for this
one under a different email address...when I came back and it synced to my
conputer, the steps came back...my niece suggested I had my phone too close
to the computer and that is what screwed the steps up...anyway, things seem
good now. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll be back if I have any further
issues!
