Getting emails with steps counted even though I've not worn or charged device

I stopped wearing my charge hr2 sometime before Christmas, and it's been sat, uncharged on a shelf since then. I also got a new phone handset in the new year and haven't synced it to Fitbit yet. However i still periodically get emails from Fitbit telling me how many steps I've done with random results in: sometimes huge numbers of steps and sometimes tiny amounts. Any ideas?

I feel for you Sarah. I have the opposite and feel I need to complain. For a Charge 3 you pay a pretty hefty price, but it has never synced with the email. Every week it is somewhere between, 15 and 30 Kilometers short of my total showing on the device. Often no steps or calories show at all.  In addition I have to tap it to see the time or exercise, so that function does not work as well.  I would appreciate hearing back from a member or mod, as I had two Alta's before and never had a problem.
