Inaccurate stairs climbed ?

I am a regular mountain hiker (weekly) and have noticed that the statistic of stairs climbed in consistently inaccurate, by approximately 300m over a 900m high gain. This has checked both against the physical map and my husbands satellite tracker, which is always spot on!  I feel cheated and now have my doubts on the stats as a whole - is this a fault with my charge 3 or a common issue that can be corrected, if not then I shall be getting rid!!  Thanks in advance for your help with this problem.  Joy

Calculating elevation gain from the tracked stairs is unlikely to be accurate.

It only tracks a flight of stairs if you gain around 10 feet in height whilst stepping and without pause. If your hike was up a steady slope then it might give reasonable results but hikes are rarely like that. They tend to involve small up and down sections during an ascent and, if you're like me, frequent pauses, which means some floors will be discounted because they didn't meet the 10 feet without break rule.

Multiplying the stairs climbed by 10 to give total feet should be seen as a minimum elevation gain but the total is likely to higher.

Thanks for your reply Steve,  that does all make sense, and now I know of the limitations of the recorded stats I'll make an allowance for that.   All these years when I thought achieved the high stairs counts I'd actually done even more!!  Bye for now   Best Wishes   Joy 😊
