There has been a lot of negative stuff from customer’s regarding their units not working or behaving properly in after (only) a couple years. I wanted to post because I too have been very frustrated with the longevity of these smart watches. However, I was watching a news story the other day talking about the longevity of Smart Phones being about 2-3 years. Just like smart phones (depending on how much demand you put on them I had my Phone X for 4-5 years but I know I demand less than the average user), they tend to start getting a bit “glitchy”after about two years. The report mentioned this is the case with electronic devices that have a lithium ion battery and specifically mention smart watches in general. I would think depending on the model (because more require more energy for usage(GPS ETC) the item is not going to last a decade or even 5 years. I am on my 4th Fitbit (Think it went Charge, Charge 2, Ionic now Versa 3). All have lasted 2 - 2 1/2 years at the most before getting glitchy or just calling it quits. The report did say that as far as phones were concerned that you should not charge daily up to 100% and to consider getting a new battery instead of brand a brand new phone. Maybe the Fitbit moderators can weigh in on any of the above and be fully honest. Hey! If this is true in general for smart watches, we should not feel as bad. My smart watch is working 24/7 except to shower & that when I charge it. Hey! I was in the Xfinity store the other day and an Apple Watch was selling for $900…boy would I be really upset if mine stopped working around 2-3 years. Starting almost suddenly mine stopped recording sleep, but if I do it manually, it still recognizes the different stages? It has started recording 40 to 50 flights of stairs a day for about 4 months now Fitbit moderators… I am not in there any vibrating devices or barometric pressure changes on a daily basis, etc. etc. I have factory reset twice, uninstalled/ reinstalled & even finally purchased a new phone so please no canned answers.
I would like to know if you can send your Fitbit in for a battery change? I would like to test the battery theory. Fitbit, if this is all true, maybe you should have a program and not chalk it up as built in obsolescence. I have talked to so many people that spent the money on a Fitbit and say it’s not worth it because they don’t last. I still believe that the Fitbit is the most accurate overall for smart watches. Therefore, I do recommend them for people I know when they are considering a smart watch. I just warn them to not be surprised if they start not behaving properly around five years. I did have one not work within one week. However, Fitbit was very accommodating and sent me out another one immediately this can happen with any electronic device.

Hi @Joilee2161 Fitbit doesn't replace batteries on these devices. You could do it yourself, if you could find the battery, proper instructions, the right tools along with a steady hand and good eye.
