I have just bought a charge 2 and am disappointed to find out that frequently used apps like facebook, messenger and whatsapp are not supported in the notifications from an iPhone. If I had known I would have bought another fitbit. 

Will this be resolved in a future update!?

I have seen people asking about this since 2016 but it seems like no action has been taken. Pretty disappointed!

The Charge 2 has been out of production for a while now and it was never intended to have 3rd party app notifications. There are other, more expensive trackers that have this feature. So no, it will not be updated to include this feature. It is included on the current Charge 3, which replaced the Charge 2. If you can return it to where you bought it, I would do so. Note, Fitbit doesn't sell this tracker anymore.
