dead Charge 2

My trusty old charge 2 seems to have died recently.  It's completely blank.  There is no response when the button is pushed, the cable is attached, or if the device is moved.  Charging it causes it to get warm (to very warm, depending the power source), but the screen never responds at all.  It doesn't vibrate when plugged in, the green lights no longer flash, the screen is completely and stubbornly blank.

The other day it briefly resurrected itself after being plugged in for a couple of hours, but then I got a white circle with an exclamation mark in the centre on the screen.  I tried resetting it (got the software version to come up) and it worked for a few minutes then went blank again.  It's given me no response at all since then.

Things I've tried (so I don't waste people's time making suggestions I've already tried):
1) I know the charging cable is good as it works fine on another charge 2 so that's not it
2) I've cleaned the contacts on the back of the charge 2 with rubbing alcohol and a cotton bud (q tip)
3) I've tried holding the button down for up to a minute at a time with no response
4) I've left it plugged in for several hours (all the while the device has been warm, as if it's been charging) with no change in status - right now it's been plugged in for four hours and it's warm to the touch, but there's no battery symbol and pushing the button does nothing (either while it's attached to the charger or while it's detached from the charger)

5) I've tried a complicated "factory reset process" that I found on another site, again to no effect (to be honest, I doubt the credibility of the instructions)

Is there any hope for this device or should I just bin it?  The funny thing is, all this happened just after I got a new charge 2.  It's almost as if the old one is sulking.

Exactly the same scenario.  Bought the Versa 2 and within a week my Charge 2 died.  Very disappointed b/c I don't want to wear my Versa 2 while playing tennis or weight lifting - concerned the screen will get damaged.

My Charge 2 stopped working right after - literally right after, as in days after- the Warranty expired - pretty sure Fitbit has this down to a fine art .  Get you hooked on a wearing a device and every two years you have to buy a new one.  I will be switching to an APPLE WATCH because all FITBIT offered me was a COUPON LINK to buy a new device.  SORRY CUSTOMER SERVICE!

I saw in another post someone state that your old fitbit product would stop working once you started a new one.  Is that true, or is that a myth?  If true, I would have thought that there would be some serious consumer protection issues around that kind of behavior, so I am currently doubting this.  But, given some of the other shenanigans Fitbit seems to be pulling, maybe it's actually credible.

It is true for me.  I must mention that I also have the Fitbit HR and it still works fine.
