how 3rd party apps work to avoid double entry on same exercise

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I am using the Fitbit Charge HR and iphone app with MyFitnessPal and LF Connect (Life Fitness Connect) App. I want to know what data is actually shared/calculated so I understand how best to use all three to avoid double entries and increase accuracy between them.

What I do now...

  • I log my food only in MFP. It seems to take the data from the other 2 apps to update my exercise.
  • I wear my fitbit when exercising and start exercise tracker both on my fitbit and on my iphone when I want to log my route. (does this result in multiple entries, should i do only one or the other??)
  • I scan the QR code when I am done on the cardio life fitness equipment at the gym. But I will also be wearing my fitbit and telling it that I am exercising? (does this result in multiple entries, should i do only one or the other??)

So my question...

I am confused if I should be both recording my exercise via on my fit bit (hold down button to start exercise tracking) and on my iphone (to track my route) - does that produce mulitple entries or is the software smart enough to know it was the same activity? Do I need to scan the QR code on the life fitness equipment or just wearing fitbit enough?

Please help to provide clairification. I want this to be streamlined and accuracte.

Thanks in advance!

Hello there @smurfette6, welcome aboard to our community. Note that its possible to duplicate entries when you are manually logging activities. However whit the Fitbit app, when you log a manual entry or you use the exercise mode of your tracker all steps, calories, and active minutes recorded by your tracker are overridden for the duration of a manually logged activity by the activity's entered values. This ensures that your steps are not counted twice as long as the manually logged activity has the correct start time and duration.

My recommendation is to use only your tracker when you are doing exercise or scan the QR code, but not both. Since these are external apps and we are not sure if it can recognized there is an activity in the same time to avoid duplicate entries. Activities from MyFitnessPal are synced to Fitbit as manually logged activities too and can caused duplicate entries if are in teh same time.

I beleived that for those exercise where are not completly step based you can used the exercise mode as this will be enough to measure your calories burned during the timeframe.

Hope this helps and if you still have questions, I'll be round.

Hi Roberto.  I have multiple apps all syncing with the Fitbit and therefore receive multiple entries for the same exact workout.  Is there any way to prevent this.  In the meantime, I have to go in and delete the multiple entries (I’m also worried that this might effect my resting hr calculations?? Because of course instead of a 60 minute workout, Fitbit thinks I’ve done a 240 minute workout).
