Barcode scanner & date on watch

Just bought my first Fitbit and have spent time customising it etc.  Learning bit by bit!

However, two problems I can't figure out:

1) The barcode scanner doesn't work for logging food.  For a £90 watch this is not good!!  I can search and find the items on the database but not scan them.  My scanner is fine as the same items scan on Myfitnesspal and that's a FREE app?!

2) The date showed up randomly on my watch but now it has disappeared.  And when it did show, the date was set up for the USA, despite me setting up my watch for the UK.  How do I get it back and how do I show the date in the UK format?

Can anyone help?

Many thanks!

Hi @KaraCrazy, welcome to the community.

Regarding your first issue. I too am in the UK and have settled on using myfitnesspal for my food logging, I find the database much more extensive (at least in the UK). You can link your fitbit account with your MFP account so that your calorie burn syncs across to MFP, your food log will also sync back to Fitbit.

As for your second issue, have you made sure that your timezone and location in your account is set to GMT and United Kingdom? I have provided an image below. I would also suggest restarting your Inspire HR by following the steps here, and forcing a sync after.

Thank you so much for your help!!

I have managed to sync MFP with my Fitbit. It works!! I’m so pleased!!

I’ve also managed to get the date back. I just needed to tap the watch screen lol!! It’s still set at in the USA format, despite double-checking my UK settings. But I can live with it..!

Just one question, though. How do you actually turn the thing off to restart it?!

I don’t think the instructions actually tell you how to do it?

Many thanks!

  1. Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
  2. Hold the other end of the charging cable near the port on the back of the tracker until it attaches magnetically. The pins on the charging cable must connect securely with the port.
  3. Press and hold the button on your tracker for 5 seconds.
  4. Release the button. When you see a smile icon and the tracker vibrates, the tracker restarted.

Hi @KaraCrazy you're very welcome! It's great to see that it has worked for you. Thanks for sharing the restart instructions @N8teGee.

About the date on your Fitbit Inspire HR, it will depend what clock face you're using you can check more details on how to pick you style from a variety of clock faces. For more information, see How do I change the clock face on my Fitbit device?

There is no option to use a UK format on Fitbit, but I think that this would be a great option to have. I took the liberty and searched for an idea like this but didn't find any. I recommend visiting our feature suggestions board and share your suggestions.

If you are still hacked off about the date format, you could try changing the clock to "Just Time".

This is still US format but shows as "Jan 03", which at least has the decency to remind you it is in the wrong format.
