Dual recording

This afternoon I went for a 3.75 mile walk. I logged it from the phone app (since, bizarrely, walking isn't an option to record from the Fitbit itself).  My phone is a Nokia 3.1

When I got back I could see that as well as that record, it had recorded automatically, so effectively my walk was there twice.

I've just gone into the app to delete one of the records, and the automatic one has disappeared - but I'm still shown as having walked 7.74 miles & a total of 17759 steps which is ridiculous.

This raises all sorts of questions about the accuracy & sensitivity of the Inspire HR:

Surely it should be able to recognise when exercise is being recorded & not trigger an automatic log?

If it subsequently recognises a duplicate record & deletes it, surely it should also delete the miles/steps/minutes/calories associated with that record?

And why on earth isn't walking/running/hiking an option to record from the Fitbit? - I'd have thought that would be the most popular form of exercise.

I'd also be interested to know if anybody else has had the same problem.

Walking certainly is an option on the Inspire (HR).  If you found the Exercise app and see other exercise choices there but not walking, those available exercise types can be chosen from more than 15 options.

See How do I change or reorder the exercises in the Exercise app?

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Thanks, that answers the lesser problem. However, it doesn't address the question of how & why it double-recorded.

@AliB58   I'm going to give you a little explanation and I hope this helps.  Your Inspire HR has both auto-recognition and the Exercise app.  The tracker is "smart" enough to ignore auto-recognition if you start an exercise with the Exercise app on the Inspire HR.  When you started an exercise on the phone app, you were using a feature Fitbit calls MobileRun.  You start/stop it from the phone app, your choices are run/walk/hike, and you get a GPS map.  MobileRun was Fitbit's first way to do GPS activities.  MobileRun is an app feature -- think of it as a different software "package" from what your tracker can do.  MobileRun and the auto-recognition/exercise app aren't "smart" enough to talk to each other.  This is why you got a double recording.  Tracking from the app is best used with older style trackers that don't have auto-recognition or the exercise app.

When you deleted the auto-recognized walk, the only thing you deleted were the detailed (one minute interval instead of five minute) interval heart rate/calorie burn.  You still have the steps.  You should delete the recording that came from the app.  Yes, you will lose that map.

If you want maps of your activities, use the Exercise app to start/stop the exercise on your Inspire HR.  Here's another Help article with more information.

BTW, I'm sure you are wonder why MobileRun is still on the app?  Two answers -- there are trackers that don't have auto-recognition or GPS connectivity.  You can track a run/walk/hike without a tracker on.

Thanks for that explanation! The only thing I don't agree with is deleting app info. The GPS seems to be more accurate than the auto-recognition for distance and time, especially for running.
