Fitbit Adding Steps Not Taken During Exercise

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have recently started doing various aerobic exercises. The last was mostly upper body movement vs full body and was about 60 minutes. There were of course some steps taken but my Fitbit stated I took over 5000 steps during that time. Considering I wasn't actually stepping most of that time, I'm fairly certain that is a bit much. Is there a way to ensure it doesn't over calculate?

It also usually automatically recognizes this workout but didn't this time.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Assuming upper body movement workout involved moving the arms a lot, that is probably getting recognized as steps. Only way to prevent that is to move tracker off of wrist and put in a pocket or clipped to clothing somehow - probably tough in an aerobics class.  But then you would lose heart rate which determines calorie burn which might be more important to you.

When you are getting extra steps, that will not affect calorie burn because that is based on heart rate.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
