Notifications keep repeating

I have my inspire hr set to give me notifications on calendar events. Usually when I get a alarm to remind me to do something, I press the button twice and it stops. On my calendar alert, it keeps reminding me. I must have at least four to six notifications about the same appt I have and cant seem to stop it for that appt only. It just keeps repeating every so often. What is the correct way to stop this from repeating?

Sorry I dont know how to delete this, so I'm going to explain what I figured out. The appt that was causing the problem was sent to me by my dentist. It was an invite, not a reminder. As the day was today and I hadn't responded, because I had no clue, it kept reminding me it was almost time. 

I declined the invite and poof it's gone. Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to delete my original post.

 I keep seeing notices for things like Palm Sunday, people's birthdays over and over all day long. I use the X to close them, but they keep coming back. Any ideas how to stop this?

On my phone, I have my calendar and it also combines occasions or holidays from all the different calendars. I was able to stop it by going into my phone, open the calendar and at the bottom where it says "calendars". Uncheck the one that is for holidays, or any other you dont want notifications for.
