Options to Minimize Bluetooth Impact

Hello! Our family gift this year was Inspire HRs. We are all on iPhones and have Mac laptops. We’re looking to minimize the connectivity from the watch so that it’s not using Bluetooth and only syncs when we prompt a sync. Some questions:

- can you turn off Bluetooth on the Fitbit (we didn’t pair, but our research shows even without pairing Bluetooth is always looking to connect)

- can we sync when we want (even with all day sync off our devices are syncing regularly without opening the app)

- can we bypass the need to connect the phone entirely (we only see compatibility for a Windows 10 computer, no Mac installer)

- what have others done to minimize health impacts of wearing a Fitbit?

Thanks for any ideas/input! We love the Fitbits just want to make sure we’re making healthy choices, especially when we’re planning to wear them 24/7.

@SunsetRunner It's great to see you on the Community. I'll be happy to clarify your question about Bluetooth connectivity and usage. We're glad to know that all your family we'll be wearing Fitbit products.

You can't turn off the Bluetooth on your Inspire HR. I'd like to mention that syncing is the process that transfers the data your device collects to your Fitbit dashboard. The dashboard is where you can track your progress, see how you slept, set goals, log food and water, challenge friends, and much more. Fitbit trackers, watches, and Fitbit Aria Air use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to sync with phones, tablets, and certain computers. Fitbit Aria and Fitbit Aria 2 use Wi-Fi to connect directly to your router.

You can turn off the Bluetooth on your iPhone or tablet to stop the syncing process too. Data automatically syncs to the Fitbit app throughout the day and if you turn off All-day sync option and still see that your Fitbit is syncing on the background, we recommend force quitting the Fitbit app to make sure it is not open in the back.

You can keep syncing your Fitbit with a computer, just make sure to verify each requirement to successfully connect:Mac or Windows 8.1 Computer.

About your last question, please follow the Wear & Care tips to wear your Fitbit all day.

Thanks for those details, I appreciate it! I have a couple of follow-up questions:

  • If I factory reset the device and set it up using a wireless sync dongle to my Mac, would the Inspire HR still be running bluetooth? I'm less worried about the inconvenience of syncing and more worried about wearing a device that is using bluetooth 24/7. I noticed there's options to turn off heart rate and GPS, would be awesome if there was an option to turn off bluetooth and only turn it on when you want to sync.
  • After downloading the Macintosh app and opening it for setup the first screen asks which device you have and the Inspire HR isn't in the list. Is this a technical issue or is the Inspire HR not compatible with the Macintosh FitBit connect app?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!
