Backpacking/Hiking Battery Life

Hello,

I am going on a 3-day backpacking trip with my Versa in August. I was hoping to be able to use the hiking exercise selection and track all my stats for it (including my GPS). I have a battery pack and can charge it at night. Does anyone know how long the battery last when doing all day hikes? Will it last the whole day if it is fully charged?

Thanks!

Hello @ChelseL thanks for joining the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. It's nice to see you too @LZeeW, thanks for your insight about this situation.

@ChelseL I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for sharing your experience with us. Please note that as @LZeeW mentioned, it's recommended to use a a USB port on your computer or other low-energy device. If necessary, you can use a UL-certified USB wall charger. Don't use a USB hub or battery pack to charge, and only use the charging cable that came with your device.

With that said, when you use the connected GPS on your Versa the battery will drain faster as it will be connected with your phone at all times. Users have reported that when connected GPS is enabled, the battery drains in 5-8 hours.

If there's anything else we can do for you, please feel free to reply, we'll be happy to help.

Hello @ChelseL and a warm welcome.  I don't have specific experience with an all day hike.  One of the things that I can say is that Fitbit specifically recommends against recharging your device with an external battery pack.  I think, but I cannot confirm, that is has to do with the risk of damage from overcharging.  See this Help article.  Do so at your own risk.  If you do choose to hike all day with it, break it up in to several segments.  Some users have described having difficulty obtaining a map and stats over longer time periods.

Since your trip is in August, you have time to experiment with tracking for extended periods and battery usage.

Have fun!
