Do you have your phone with you while using the Bike Mode?
Does your Versa receive notifications? The connected GPS and Notifications is the same channel with most phones.
May I ask what type of phone you are having issues with.
One thing to try is to enable always connected, if your Fitbit app has this option under the versa settings.
One step that often held me on my Android phone is to do a restart of the phone. The tracker usually connects to GPS before the phone has completely per up.
