Buttons or touch screen? Not quite Pebbly enough

The Versa is definitely on its way to becoming a spiritual successor to the Pebble legacy. I've been holding on with dear life to my Pebble 2 HR until it recently had a button rupture and therefore lost its waterproofing.

As such, I've come to the Versa with a very Pebble-esque lens. I've enjoyed it, and compared to Wear OS it is a much more fitness- and life-augmentation-aligned device. However, there are some issues in that it doesn't seem to have a consistent interaction methodology like the Pebble devices did. The latest Pebble OS, with its quirky animations, the timeline and overall polished design was my perfect wearable OS because it knew that sometimes I needed to do something quickly and precisely while either not looking at the screen, or while moving. A touchscreen doesn't allow this, and so I'm always disappointed when some operations on the Versa require me to touch some tiny button on the screen with my finger while moving. The Versa should make better use of the top and bottom buttons to allow navigation in more screens.

Although before embarking on that; do what Pebble did and come up with the entire OS language, interaction mechanisms and so on. They even published it all for everyone to see. It was well researched, well thought about. So far I've been unconvinced by Fitbit OS's architecture. It feels like too many people have just put random things together, rather than have a harmonious over-arching architecture.

TL;DR; I want more Pebble and acknowledgement of what makes a device like this useful and less inconsistency.

@WebAsh I agree with your comment on better utilisation of the buttons. Entirely. But, I doubt Fitbit OS is supposed to replicate Pebble OS. Actually, far from it.

Why acquire the software assets of Pebble if not to make use of their clearly superior OS? Why build one from scratch when they already own one? Quite strange to me...
