Calories burned incorrect?

Hello 🙂

So everyone I know that has an Apple Watch works out for 30 minutes and they 300 calories. It takes me over an hour to burn 300 calories. Whenever I go to the gym I typically run mikes (with sprints), lift weights, and do HIIT workouts. My 1 1/2 hour workout typically only burns 300 calories and i am sweating the entire time. I’m not sure if it is because I am only 5’w and in the 107 pound range. I just don’t get how I work out so much and on days I don’t work out I still burn around 1800 to 2100 cal.

Why is it that I see people post similar workouts as the ones I do and they burn way more calories? Thank you.

Hi there @Spacedoutsquare, it is great to have you as a new member of the Community! Keep in mind we are talking here of different proprietary technologies and different metabolic rates if we compare to other people's data.

Now, back to your concerns and the amount of calories burned with your exercise, most of this is related to the pace and intensity we invest in an exercise. Taking your example on this matter, in those days where the calories are higher even when your activity is more sedentary, most of the times this is related to the intensity put in short periods of time.

Of course this not all depend in pace and intensity but also in your BMR, which contributes around the half of calories for your day.

For more details on calories please refer to this help article section:

A good optional practice is to use your web Dashboard and review your intensity of your activities to have a wider scope how was your routine and identify where you burned more calories.

See you later and hope this helps.

Can you provide a screenshot of a workout summary with heartrate and calories etc? Also, how often do you do HIIT? On the side note, your calorie burn is dependent on lots of factors such as weight, age or heartrate. 100 kg person will burn approximately double calories for the same run as 50-kg one. I could see that in my case when I lost weight. Also your body adjusts and with time you need to push harder and harder to achieve even partial burn result.

For me it's the other way around. At the end of the day Fitbit always has me 400-500 (or more) calories higher than my Apple watch and I don't know who to believe. If my Apple watch says 2600 for the day my Fitbit has me over 3000
