Connected GPS Run Inaccurate Distance (Screenshots)

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have done two runs with the Versa so far using the connected GPS to my phone and both runs have been extremely inaccurate. The first run was a 4 mile run, fitbit had it as a 3. The second run was another 4 mile run and at the half way point it had it at 1.4 miles instead of two.

I am coming from a Blaze and while it didn't match Google Fit 100% (normally off by .1 of a mile or so) it was never off by this much. Here are screenshots below showing it:

Completed run in Google Fit:

Complete run with Versa connected GPS:

The same run but with the Blaze and connected GPS:

And here today different location at the two mile mark in Google fit:

Versa connected GPS:

This is completely unacceptable. If this can't be permanently resolved (and I DO NOT considered constantly rebooting the device/my phone, pairing re-paring, etc a fix) then it will be going back. Add this to it deciding to give me an extra 3k steps while I was sitting on my computer doing nothing last night I am not that happy so far.

EDIT: Just noticed on today's run that the GPS line doesn't start until half way down the run but it was tracking from the start. Where it has the first mile marked isn't even a mile from the point the line starts. Just add it to the list I guess.

I'm experiencing the same issue. Charge2 was a problem with app v2.66 but got better with later updates. Now, with my Versa, we're back to the same squiggly lines. Same routes, different distances.  Maybe this requires an app update? With my Versa 04/16/18With my Versa 04/16/18With my Charge2 04/14/18With my Charge2 04/14/18

Did one more run after I removed the Versa from my account, uninstalled the app from my phone, and then reinstalled everything. It's still not right. I checked it multiple times while running and noticed that quite a lot the Versa says "connecting" in the top left indicating it lost GPS connection for whatever reason. Here are the screenshot.

Fitbit, here you can see how the red line isn't close to the entire run. My guess is it's losing connection for some reason:

I have the same problem as well. My run was recorded by fitbit as 3.5km but according to google maps (I plotted the distance). It was only 2.86km. That's a difference of 600-700meters! This is too much an inaccuracy!

I had a decidedly better result today.  I have downloaded the Strava app to my phone, opened a free account and linked it to my FitBit.  I used the Strava app to track my walk at the same time as I started my walk on my Versa.  All other settings are the same.  I did restart my Versa several times earlier since I was trying to change the bands and I kept pressing buttons after shutting down while I struggled with the band.

The distances differ by 0.15 miles.  I can live with that.  It does influence my pace stats but I'm not training for anything specific.  Just trying to see improvements.

Make sure all your locations services in your phone are on (yes, ALL of them).  Make sure you have enabled Connected GPS for those activities that support it.  Make sure the FitBit app is open on your phone.  Start the exercise from the Versa.  Make sure you have your phone with you during the bike/run.  End the activity on the Versa.  Open the FitBi app on the phone and sync.  Then, cross your fingers that everything came out right.  Smiley Wink

It's not a phone issue, it is a Versa issue. I ditched the Versa and set back up my Blaze and this was my run this afternoon.

Fitbit Blaze with connected GPS:

Google fit:

Now the blaze wasn't perfect but it was within the margins since I have been using it the past two years. I'm fairly certain the problem is with how the Versa constantly loses connection while running and shows the "connecting" in the top left of the screen.

For now it's going back in the box for the next week to see what Fitbit's response is to all of this. If their response, or lack their off, is not good enough then it's going back to the store.

I was having a similar problem and had a better outcome today when I unpaired Mobile Track in the app itself.

Hello,

I am experiencing this same issue. Waited for phone and Versa to "connect" prior to starting run. Phone and Versa stayed connected for about a mile but read "connecting" for the next five miles.

WiFi is off. App has appropriate permissions. Versa and phone are paired under Bluetooth.

Please advise if this is a known bug that will be addressed in an upcoming app release.

Thanks!

I am having the same issue.  When I try to connect to GPS it just says “connecting”.  My Bluetooth is on, my phone is near my Fitbit.  It worked the first day but now it doesn’t.

I am also having the same problems.

I just went for a bike ride with my new versa.  My versa shows connected to my iphone 7 iOS 11.3 . Location services are enabled, set to always allow for Fitbit.  My Versa showed it was connecting the whole time, but the phone shows location was on and being used.  When I got back from the ride, I had 0 miles and avg pace was 0.  So basically it didn't work.  All it did was track my heart rate.

I thought things were better but now they are not.  With my last walk, my Strava map and my Versa/FitBit map were different by more than a mile.  Come on!  Both apps are using the same GPS in my phone.  Therefore, this can only be caused by the connection with my Versa and the calculations done by FitBit HQ.  My pace is off, my distance for the day is off.  My steps are correct.  I really wish this would get some attention from FitBit but it seems they are busy with more pressing issues regarding set up and not performance.  Woman Sad

To add some weight to this problem and hopefully draw Fitbit's attention, I'm cross-posting my similar issues with Fitbit's cycling mileage not matching Strava.

Same issues here. First run two days ago seemed to go fine, today it wasn't connecting to the GPS right, told me my pace was 18 mins/mile (it was around 8). Vastly underestimated my distance. I'll give it a few weeks to get the kinks worked out, but this is definitely a deal breaker for me.

I'm pretty convinced this is an issue with staying connected to the phone, would y'all mind posting what phone your versa is connected to? Mine is a Samsung S8
