I wasn't trying to clear data. I was trying to put on a new watch band, and it took me ages!!! When I finally got it done, I got an error message on the watch. I saw something online that said "turn it off and restart" but I coudln't figure that out either. What buttons?

@CBrownie your post sounds like a response to somebody that has responded to you. 

My thought would be to hold in the left button until the tracker restarts.

That didn’t work. I had to send my watch back to the company for repairs.
