FitBit Pay not working at certain merchants

I have noticed that Fitbit pay on my Versa works with some merchants that accept NFC payments but not others. Does anyone know what the issue might be?  It works fine at Walgreens, Trader Joe’s, Dairy Queen, and Best Buy. However, it won’t work at three places where Apple Pay will work:  Chick fil A, Mammoth Cave Park gift shop, and a local restaurant that uses the Square NFC reader.  Like I said, Apple Pay worked for all three of those.  The Square reader even told the restaurant that the card wasn’t supported, but they accept American Express.

Does anyone one know why this would be the case?

It's probably because not all retailers support Fitbit Pay.  This article explains how you can tell which retailers accept Fitbit Pay.

In this case, all of the merchants where it wouldn’t work had NFC readers. How would Apple Pay work but not Fitbit Pay?

The article even shows the guy using it at something that looks like a Square terminal, but it failed when I tried it at a Square NFC reader.

If you really are looking for an answer, I would contact your bank, not your fellow Fitbit users.

You would want to give them business names and maybe dates.

There are a few places I get an error sying "must use chip reader"  I don't know if you receive any error, but an error message would be the best place to start

Oh when I receive the must use chip reader, it is simply because the cashier did not hit the proper form of payment button.

In one case, I got a card not supported error. The NFC didn’t even connect. At Chick fil A, I’d see a light or hear a sound, but the system didn’t even try to process. Only in one case did it process and decline. All three times, Apple Pay worked afterward.

If I were getting declined transactions, calling the bank would make more sense. Given what is happening, I have doubts it’s a bank issue.
