Hi, I know this problem must be posted about a lot, but I just went to the mall and got my fitbit with my Mom (I payed for it.) I was really excited to get it and I'm still gonna wear it because I personally think even without all the tracking stuff it's kinda cool. Afterwards I decided to do some walking with her, I could believe the steps, but the calories burned seemed WAAAAAAY off. I had done a little more than 1000 steps, and most of that time it said I burned 1,400-1,700 calories. Despite walking a lot, I felt this wasn't accurate.
I thought that perhaps since I just got it maybe it started out with a glitch or something, so I went to bed (and was very disappointed btw because it didn't track me sleeping, I was excited for that.)
So I wake up. At this point I have not gotten out of bed for anything. Not for water, not to go to the bathroom, nothing, and already it says I've walked 9 steps that day, which is a lie but honestly not really that bad. My calories on the other hand.. 600..
So sadly the fitbit has lost a lot of value to me, or maybe I'm just doing something wrong? I don't know. I was hoping maybe I could adjust something to get past this issue. I hope to hear from you guys soon.

This is perfectly normal, because we burn calories just by being alive. It depends for everyone, but some can burn up to 2000 calories per day by doing nothing. Those are calories burned by our metabolism. The calories you burn during sports are added to that. So if you want to calculate the amount of calories you burned during your walk, I would suggest recording it by starting an activity on your watch.
