Hello there @topspin, it's nice to see you around the Community Forums.
Please note that when a specific exercise is not available within the exercises we offer (such as Indoor Rowing), we suggest to use "Workout". Once you finish the activity, you can rename the activity to "Indoor Rowing".
Note that the information to enter will change depending on the nature of the exercise. To give you an example, if you change from "Workout" to "Run", it won't remove the calories but will add distance as the main stat to be displayed, this happen depending of the activity you are categorizing. However, your the data already tracked will be still counted for your daily totals.
For more information about how to do so, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?
Let us know if you have any questions present.

As @MarreFitbit says, I also use a rowing machine, the only difference with what has already been suggested is that I use "Interval Workout" on my Versa 2 so I can do reps with rest periods between them - 1:30 and 0:20. Using Interval Workout, I don't have to keep track of how long I have been either rowing or resting, the app does it for me. I then later recategorize the exercise to "Rowing Machine" in the iOS mobile app. If you have an Android app, it is my understanding you would either not be able to recategorize or your options of what to rename exercises is limited. It has been a while since an Android user discussed this on the boards so my memory isn't clear on the subject.
I sometimes extend the Interval Workout to include my Total Gym where I perform squats, overarm movements, curls, etc., doubling the number of reps. If so, I just leave the category at Interval Workout.
