Intermittent step-counting fault

I’ve had my Versa 2 for 5 days and have been enjoying it so far. However, this afternoon it stopped counting my steps. I’ve tried

  • restarting it several times
  • trying different clock faces
  • disconnecting and reconnecting Bluetooth 
  • restarting the app on my phone
  • charging the Fitbit 

Every now and then it will count another 10 steps approx, then stop again. I’d prefer not to do a factory reset as I’d lose the data I’ve built up so far.

Is anyone else having this issue? I’m on software version 35.716.19. I wonder if it’s a software bug or if I’ve got a dud and should return it to store sooner rather than later.

Edit: I’ve just been for a long, brisk walk and my Fitbit seems to be tracking properly again. I’ll keep an eye on it 🙂
