Much too complicated!

Just got a Fitbit Versa as a gift, but I think it's going back. I've been trying all day to get it set up, but no luck. I don't have a smart phone, but do have a PC with Windows 10, internet, and Bluetooth. It got partially set up, but couldn't find the WiFi. I went over next to the Wifi modem, but can't figure out to get connected. I've tried turning everything on and off many times, deleted the Fitbit app and reinstalled, etc. but it just doesn't work. The watch says 'To get started, download the Fitbit app (which I did). So far, the watch is useless. Can't even use it as a watch! All I wanted was a watch and a heart rate monitor- Why the heck do I need another device, internet, wifi, and bluetooth for that? As you can tell, I'm not a big fan of overly complicated gadgets that are needlessly complicated to set up and use. Sorry.

After a very long session with Customer Support, I got it working. I noticed that the rep seemed to making changes on his end, and after numerous re-starts it finally synced up and is working. That said, I'm underwhelmed with it. The pulse monitor is way off, usually reading much too high. In order to use the watch or the pulse monitor, you have to wake it up by tapping it. What good is a watch that you have to tap to see it? I'm sure it's a great gadget for some, but it's not for me. Wish I had known more about it beforehand, but live and learn. Hopefully the retailer will take it back.

Hi, understand your frustration, but did you put your Versa in the charger and connected to your PC whilst setting it up?

If you want to set up your Versa only with your PC, do the following:

1. Go to settings on your Versa, scroll down to BT and choose pairing

2. Put your Versa in the charger and connect it to your PC.

3. Start the settings on your PC and choose BT.

4. Once the BT program has opened, click on "add a new BT" device and it will go searching for your Versa.

5. Once your PC has found your Versa, it will be listed in the connected BT devices.

6. Whenever your PC has found your Versa, go to https://www.fitbit.com/.

7. Login into your fitbit account and if you do have have one, register.

8. Once logged in, this site will show you your dashboard with your Versa's stats, like HR, steps, active minutes, etc.

BTW, windows 10 does not have a seperate Fitbit app, you'll just have to use the Website's Fitbit.

This is incorrect. The Fitbit app is available for download from the Microsoft Store, for computers (and phones) that run on Windows 10.

(I'm also inclined to agree with @SunsetRunner that the Versa or any tracker may not be the way to go in their case. An old style watch (battery or clockwork) may suit their needs better.)

Hi, before answering you I have searched whether there is a seperate Fitbit App for Windows 10 on a PC. Alas, the answer is no, all of the answers point to the Windows 10 Mobile device. Furthermore, I can only advice you to use what I advised you.

Hi @SunsetRunner,

I have the Fitbit app installed on my Windows 10 computer. It's been there, through various updates, for about six months since I bought the Versa, so I guess we must agree to disagree. If you have a Windows 10 computer, you can find it in the Microsoft Store (as I said). (I wonder if you have a Windows 10 computer or are just saying what you think is the case?)

Here are images of the app from the store  (as installed on my laptop). The bottom image shows the requirements for Windows 10.

The same version number is for the app on a Windows phone.

Hi, found it in the store and installed it. Alas I have to conclude that this seperate app is way much slower than the website version I send you earlier. So, Im going to delete that. Besides that, it tells me that I have to turn on my BT, wich is also not needed using the web version.

Edit: I see you've found the app, @SunsetRunner. That's good. (The OP doesn't have a phone, so the only way they can sync the Versa is via their PC, which means using the app on the PC.)

-----------------------------------

That's a different problem @SunsetRunner :). What browser are you using? Can you see images that are in other posts on this discussion board? (This might need a different thread as we're getting off topic now.)

Getting back to the Windows app, if you visit Microsoft Store (the web Store or the app Store) and search for Fitbit, you'll see the Fitbit app is described as being "available on" personal computers as well as phones (and X-box One among other things).

Hi, I use Chrome cause that's the best browser at this very moment and yes I can see posted pictures. As I said I've found the Fitbit App in the windows store and installed it, but IMHO it's just crap compared to Fitbit's own website Dashboard version. Maybe the problem is that we live in two totally different countries. I'm in the Netherlands.

Maybe that's it. (My laptop has very good bluetooth, at least as fast and strong as my phone which is also very good. I prefer syncing with the phone because it's with me more of the time, and I want to get notifications and use GPS.)

When I said the OP needs the app, it might also be possible to sync using Fitbit connect on their PC, whatever that is, if someone doesn't want to use the app. I've not investigated that option, just read about it.

Thanks for your final message. My PC has also very fast BT, but I prefer to use Fitbit's website as it does not need BT. Just try it out and you will notice that it's much more convenient that via the Windows 10 seperate Fitbit app. Goodbye and good luck.

Hi @SunsetRunner. I use the dashboard a lot. It's nice and easy (if a bit limited).

Not to labour the point, but I think you're missing the point about the OP needing to sync via their Windows 10 computer 🙂

As I understand it you sync with your phone. That's how the website dashboard gets its information. (If I'm wrong and you've managed to get the info to the cloud via wifi or some other means, it would be good to know.)

The OP said they don't have a phone.

They need to sync in order to get information via the website dashboard. With a Windows 10 PC, they can sync via the Fitbit app (on their PC). After that, if they want to, they can also look at the info on their website dashboard.

Yes, there is a Windows 10 app, and as I said, I did get it working. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions. I think the heart monitor is being thrown off by my heart arrythmia. My heart sometimes beats too early, and I guess the device takes that as a more rapid pulse. My normal heartbeat is in the low 50's, yet sometimes the device reads 100 or higher, then goes back down into the 50's. I mostly wanted the device as a heart beat monitor for when I'm at the gym (I don't really care how many steps I take in a day), but the erratic readings and the fact that I have to wake it up to get a reading make it somewhat useless for my needs. I need something that gives me a continuous reading. If I have to tap on it, I'll probably fall off of the treadmill!
