Music controls issue

Hey there! I have had the Versa for a few days now. Loving it so far! Execpt for one thing, lol. I have only noticed one issue that seems software related either with the Versa or my phone. I have an Essential Phone PH-1. My issue is that I have been trying to get the music controls working to control my phone playing Spotify, Google music, ect... My phone recognized the Versa right away and would connect to Versa classic, but the Versa would time out and say "no devices found". However it will say it is connected to my phones bluetooth address. When I go to the music controlson the Versa the volume buttons work but there are no skip, play, pause buttons. Just the " start playing music on your phone" message. I have tried alot of troubleshooting. What I could think of and things I found on forums. Tried a factory reset too. Nothing has helped. Any help would be much appreciated. Just kind of annoying that a feature that is supposed to work, doesn't.

This solution worked for me 🙂   -- and that too on Pixel 2 XL

can control all the music apps from my fit bit Versa SE now 🙂 . Thanks man.

@ All make sure the Bluetooth setting is "On". and then once you are pressing the left button - at first the control will not be there - press the "..." and toggle from phone->watch-> phone again . come back to previous screen , the controller should be here now

Cheers

Doesn't work for me

Fixed the issue. Didn't involve buying a different phone or messing with Bluetooth settings. I exchanged my Versa for a Garmin and now it works every time!

Thanks, thread!

I finally got it sort of working on my Pixel 2 XL. I can control the music but the music playing doesn't change to lags behind and doesn't display the current song playing. Do you encounter this same issue?

Man, I wish I saw this thread before I got the FitBit Versa... back to my Pebble Time I guess...

Same issue for me. Using a OnePlus 3T and Android 7.1.2.

The watch and the phone both state they are connected, but the watch just tells me to start playing music on my phone, with a green phone icon at the bottom.

Trying to play music through both Google Play and Pandora made no difference. Unpairing/re-pairing the "classic" controller on the watch made no difference. Toggling the music selection on the watch, both before/after playing a track, made no difference. Toggling the "Always Connected" setting in the Fitbit app made no difference. I have yet to get it to work at all.

With my Pebbles, the ability to control music was implemented in the single bluetooth connection between the phone and the watch. I didn't have to pair it a second time and have additional battery drain from the second connection, and it worked consistently with no troubles.

It may seem minor, but this is one of the few smartwatch features I used regularly when it was available. Not having it is an incentive to return the watch and wait to see if/when it's corrected. Hard to accept this from a watch released in 2018 when older tech works better with fewer hassles.

Yep, I would return my Versa if I didn't buy it for a decent price from an eBay store that has a restocking fee. I've spent way too much time trying to get it to work. It kinda works if you go through a bunch of stuff (classic control? What?) but you have to go through a bunch of steps every time and the song displayed doesn't even update when changing tracks.

I know the Pixel 2 XL is not supported official but, Jesus, my old Pebble Time works perfectly without have really do anything. Fitbit purchased Pebble, and so I though, "Hey, I'm sure the new Versa will work great like the Pebble Time, it even has a similar button setup..."

Hopefully, Fitbit can get their Pebble folks to fix this, since they clearly couldn't...

Has anybody with this issue received the just released firmware, 32.32.10.15 (Fitbit OS 2.1)?

Fitbit says they're currently "rolling out this update to 10% of Versa users. This is a progressive rollout, and all Versa users can expect to have it within a few weeks. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed."

Fingers crossed things are better?

Just got the firmware update. Music control was the first thing I checked and I didn't even have anything cued up on my phone but when I pushed the buttons on the versa it was ready to go with the last thing I'd been listening to. Hopefully this is the fix we've needed and it doesn't all disappear tomorrow

On what phone is this? Can someone confirm for the Pixel 2?

Hopefully the update fixed this for everyone but I still don't have the update.  Meanwhile, I have gotten it to reliably work by starting the music on my phone BEFORE I turn on my headphones and following the tip on the first page of this thread about tapping the dots to choose the phone as a source and then backing out to the control screen.  I never change the music controls to watch, just leave it on phone but I do have to go to that screen and then back to controls.  Anyway, the important part for me was to never turn on my Bluetooth speaker or headphones until after I see the music controls pop up on the versa.  After it's working just with my phone then I can turn on my speaker or headphones and everything works.  It's like it gives the controls to versa first then.

Yep, I'm still waiting for update... I hope it improves the Music Controller situation.

I have a Pixel 2 XL.

I've had no issues since I learned to start the music on my phone before I connect to a Bluetooth device.  I think it just might be how it is supposed to work.

Hey, I'm having the exact same issue. I have a galaxy S8 and everything else works great with the versa except for the music control. I go in and connect it to the Versa (Classic) in bluetooth and its still not showing up with any controls on the versa, it just keeps saying "No phone connected" or "start playing music from a music app". Its really problematic as a big thing for me when I bought the watch was the ability to skip songs and control my music when I run.

Fitbit really needs to get the act together and fix this issue as it seems to be impacting a lot of people. Honestly, its a bit short sighted to expect everyone to sign up for either pandora (which isnt available in every country) or whatever deezer is in order to access streaming music through the watch. They really REALLY need to include compatibility for either google play or spotify.

It didn't work for me until I went on my versa to settings > bluetooth > music via bluetooth = pair. Open bluetooth on your phone and scan for a new device. Click Versa Classic. Once your phone is paired to Versa Classic, keep tapping "Music via Bluetooth" on your Versa until the phone is connected to Versa Classic while the bluetooth = "on" on the versa. It may not work the first "on" time around. Dont give up. Keep tapping! Hit the left button on your versa 3 times until you get to the home screen. Press and hold the left button until you get to your payment, swipe to go to the left screen, click on the 3 dots, click the clock, click the phone, hit the left button again. This worked for me.

Same exact issue using Moto G phone.  So frustrating, as I really like my new Versa otherwise!
