Woke me up at 0415 buzzing away saying I did my 10k steps... as it sat on the bathroom counter.
Back into the box it goes since it's past the return period. I've tried rebooting, reinstalling, updating and the app still doesn't reset reliably at midnight and the watch tracks phantom steps. I've tried charging/not charging, leaving in different areas of the house.... What a joke.
Back to my S2 for now, I guess.

Hey @benleclair, welcome aboard! I appreciate the tips you have tried to fix these inconveniences with your Versa. Now let me ask you this, by any chance, have you left your Versa close to anything that may have been buzzing or vibrating on the same surface? If so, please change it. And if this isn't the case or still counting a lot of extra steps, let me know and I will continue assisting you. 😉
I'll be around!

I leave my Garmin VA3 next to my fan ( I live in Florida) every night and no extra steps. Your answer is absurd.

I tried leaving my watch in multiple locations as I had read that would help. (That's why it was on the bathroom counter.) It still was racking up steps.
I have already tried all of the suggestions on the forum so far, but for now I went back to my Samsung S2 watch.

I did an 8.5 hour drive and logged 17k steps. I barely left the car. Can someone help?

Time for FitBit to talk about how they plan to fix this or issue a recall.

Really glad I have seen this! Was about to go out and purchase a Versa to replace my dated (feels like!) Surge. Might hold off on that for now, as I have also had issues with phantom steps being counted when my device doesn't move. Similar to my calorie count too, most days it tells me I burn 3500+ calories - I doubt that very much.

The Versa step counts are terribly inaccurate. I have found in the month I have had it that I have 25-30% more steps a day I did with my Gear S2 though I walk the same routes every day. I measured my Gear S2 against an high end accurate pedometer and it was fairly close. The Versa, way off.
I could also go biking on my Gear S2 and it would know I was on my bike so it wouldn't count steps. The Versa, counts when I ride.
The Versa is not very smart nor accurate.

I am now having the same issue too, it hasn't been left next to anything vibrating and yet on Sunday I had completed 50K and this morning 25K steps before I had even put it on... I can't edit the data on fitbit as it isn't registering as an activity just as steps and from what I can see there is no way to delete this. My fitbit is linked to my health insurance and this is just making it ridiculous to give them accurate data!
