So, I think I have had enough of reading the forum, and want to share my thoughts.
I was lucky, I believe, in that I got a Versa which basically works. It's the silver/gray band combination. Out of the box, it did just about everything right except sleep tracking, and with a couple of calls to support, even that is working as well as my Alta or Charge 2 ever worked. My expectations are realistic (this is not a medical device) but it certainly gives me the information I want. And, after abandoning Weight Watchers after another wonky update, I find that the calorie tracking is quite good.
What I cannot get over is Fitbit's response to users. Given that some are brand new to the Fitbit environment (I've been using these devices since 2011), there should have been a lot more explanation and a lot less blame from the company. And, it seems that there are real problems that have not been addressed. What I also find very interesting is that there have been three app crashes (two android, one iOS) since the Versa launch. I don't remember quite so many in years past.
What all of this adds up to is that this is the last Fitbit product I will buy. When the Versa goes (probably in a year, given how my other devices went), I will go to another company.
