Outdoor Cycling Algorithm?

All,

I know this is a FitBit forum and that's why I'm here but offer the following as background for my question:

I just found out that the green "Exercise Ring" on my Apple Watch doesn’t advance if my pulse rate doesn’t stay above 130, if I’m doing a non-walking/running exercise. It was my first trike ride of the year so I cruised and had purposely limited my HR to under 130 BPM. Of my hour long bike ride, my Series 4 Apple Watch had only recorded 10 minutes! So, reasonably, I could walk for 30 minutes at less than 130 BPM and it would record all 30 minutes at the same sub-130 HR and close my "Exercise Ring" but it would only record the portion on my ride where I exceed 130 bpm. Earlier in the day, I'd climbed 8 flights of stairs and that had advanced the "Exercise Ring" but not so with the actual exercise of cycling.

My question for the FitBit team is, therefore, Will a Versa record my cycling exercise even if my heart rate stays below 130 BPM (or some other rate)? I'll switch in a heartbeat (pun intended) to a FitBit just to be able to record all of my exercises.

Thanks,

Bill

On most Fitbit models, you can tell it you about to start a workout, and then tell it when you are done, so you are sure to get the whole thing recorded.  In fact, you could say you are about to start a workout, watch TV for half an hour, then say you are done, and it would record that as a workout.

That's the sure way.  There is also auto-detect which tries to detect your workout from your movement, which is not always totally accurate.

I've never used an Apple Watch but it sounds strange that it doesn't let you record an workout just by saying you are doing it.

The "exercise ring" sounds something like Fitbit's "active minutes" which require a certain level of  intensity sustained for at least 10 minutes.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
