I found a solution that worked for me
When i chose a fitbit exercise suh as walking the Versa would connect to GPS not problem. I like to look at how many steps I've taken during the walk. I would use the button on the left to bring up the screen. I would be connected. I would check again later on and it would say "connecting to GPS". I tried multiple recommendations and nothing seemed to work. Not turning off WiFI, not changing the connection for music. I would have to reboot my phone for the connection to re-establish, the phone would say connected but the Versa would not.
I have since stopped using the button on the left to check my status. I just move my wrist until the screen comes up and it is still connected. I believe that the button some how disconnects the Bluetooth connection. I have also loosen the strap for the Versa as i keep the Versa on my right wrist and when i bend my wrist i think the button was being pressed.
I was very frustrated hopes this helps somebody else. I will check back it this stops working.

I tried your tip for a recent hike and it seemed to work for about the first mile and then when I lifted my wrist again, it said "connecting to GPS" and would not reconnect no matter what I did. Once my hike was over, I ended up turning my Bluetooth on and off several times (on my phone) and it finally reconnected. I hope the trick is still working for you. This is such a frustrating problem!
