There are numbers on lower left side of watch face what are they for just received watch and haven't taken one step yet

We would need to know what watch face, it could be one of over a thousand choices. or what the numbers refer to. 

Try swiping up to find more info but I think these may be your BMR. 

Or the calories you have burnt since midnight.
