So if my fitbit versa doesnt collect steps when pushing a shopping cart, will it do the same for a baby stroller?

Probably so, but if you put tracker in a pocket or fasten onto clothing probably will get a good step count, though lose heart rate data for that time.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Then what about the heartbeat reading?

If tracker is on wrist, should still get heart rate and associated data, including calories, active minutes, just not steps, which are what some people care most about.

But if in pocket or such, no heart rate data.

Someone said they got steps by using an underhanded grip on shopping cart. That might be worth a try if not too awkward.
