I understand that fitbit is supposed to take the number of steps and multiply this by either your running or walking stride length to work out the distance.
What’s puzzling me is that on a day I walked 6k steps I apparently did 4.12km and today I walked 10k steps but only 4.16km in distance.
Any idea whats going on? I’ve tried editing my stride length and also switching back to custom but the distances remain pretty much the same for nearly double the steps.

The Fitbit uses your steps along with GPS during your walks and runs to calculate stride length. It will take several of these GPS events to get what is close to normal for you.

Yes, I understand that the stride length isn’t going to be accurate until I’ve used gps a few times. Though regardless of what length is being used double the amount of steps should not give the same value for distance.

I just switched to a Versa from a Charge2. I have my stride length set manually. The Charge was pretty accurate re steps vs distance, but the distance I'm getting after a few days with the Versa is about 85% of what it should be. I've confirmed my stride length settings are still there and the GPS feature is off.

I am still trying to figure out my Versa. It was accurate for a 10K and Half that I ran in April in Florida. Then when I ran a 10K in Atlanta on July 4th, it under-estimated my distance (4.9 miles instead of 6.2). So I tried switching to manual stride and increased it by one inch. The next time I ran was on a treadmill at a fitness center. It said I only ran 0.5 miles after running 2.1 miles. This is really an issue and it seems random.
