Too many steps after using MobileTrack

When I switched from the watch to my phone (Mobile Track)  45000 extras steps were added. Why did this happen? How do I fix it?

There is an occasional problem whereby a huge number of steps suddenly get added.  I have seen reports of this happening to people in the middle of the night.  Just from what I have gathered, it seems that people who experience this seem have Mobile Track set up as a device, often without even realizing it.  Your experience leads me further to believe it is a bug related to Mobile Track.  This has been reported to Fitbit years ago and I was told it was not common enough to  find a pattern or to bother addressing.

It used to be that you could add an activity labeled "Driving" for the time period when bogus steps were recorded, and those steps would be nullified.  I don't know if that still works.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
