Unable to sync with Oneplus 6

I am not able to connect with Oneplus 2 and Oneplus 6. I have already updated both mobiles and firmware update in Versa. But after that the same issue occurs. And yes when I sync it with other mobile phone like Xiaomi Mi4 it will connect easily. Why and what is the solution i think i have wasted my money in Fitbit Versa.

@romil14 First pick one phone you want to sync your tracker with, or at least turn the bluetooth off on all others. Now please try this:

  1. Unpair (remove) Versa from your phone's bluetooth settings
  2. Uninstall the Fitbit mobile app
  3. Reboot your phone and install Fitbit mobile app. Do not pair in your phone's bluetooth settings. The trick here is to not pair in phone Bluetooth settings but rather let the Fitbit mobile app do that.
  4. Reboot your Versa by pressing and holding the left and bottom right buttons until Fitbit logo flashes
  5. Login to Fitbit mobile app
  6. Grant all permissions and sync
  7. Make sure that Sync Service notification for Fitbit mobile app has the priority set to at least HIGH (this can be done in the Android settings>Notifications>Fitbit)
  8. Make sure All-day sync, Always Connected are enabled in the Fitbit mobile app. Make sure to sync after enabling them.

Additional tips if sync issues persist: If you have Wifi set up, go to Fitbit mobile app and remove it, then sync your Versa. I noticed that it causes issues for me. If you have other Bluetooth devices paired with your phone, forget them. One of them might be causing issues.

If you have issues with the notifications, please do the following:

  1. Turn OFF the Notifications in your Fitbit mobile app and on your Versa, reboot your phone and Versa, and turn the notifications back ON on both devices.
  2. Make sure the notifications are ON on your Versa. Press and hold the left button to access quick menu. Turn the notifications to ON.
  3. In the Fitbit mobile app, make sure you enabled the notifications and that Fitbit notification service is enabled in your phone settings. It needs to be ON.
  4. If your phone is in DND or silent mode, make sure Always vibrate option is enabled in your Fitbit mobile app. Also, it's always a good idea to toggle on/off notifications in the Fitbit mobile app with sync in-between.
  5. Make sure that any app you would like to receive notifications for on your Versa has the push notifications priority set to at least HIGH (this can be done in the Android settings>Notifications). Please see my post here for more info.
  6. Also, please make sure Fitbit mobile app is not being optimized by Android (Android settings>Battery>Optimization>Fitbit needs to be marked as not optimized).
  7. Finally, OP phones are known for extremely aggressive power management. Anything remotely more active gets killed including Fitbit mobile app. You may need to lock the app in the background by using screen pinning. Please see my post here.

If everything fails and sync is still not stable, downgrade fitbit mobile app to version 2.74.2.

Dear Fitbit

is there a reason why the Android app is so much worse than the iOS version? On my iPad (4 years old) sync works like a charm while sync never works for more than a few days on any Android phone I’ve tested, including 6T. Factory reset and all works well. Two or three days later, no sync possible without restart or factory reset.

Never had any Bluetooth issues on my phones. How hard can it be for Fitbit to write a working sync routine on Android?

Hope you can fix it. Would like to use the phone app.

Thanks

Many thanks @Marrrmaduke, for that detailed answer! Cat Happy

I just would like to add that the Fitbit app is compatible with more than 200 Apple, Android, and Windows 10 phones and tablets. We're continually adding more devices and improving our compatibility, our team routinely test new devices to ensure full compatibility with Fitbit devices and the Fitbit app. Be sure to verify that your phone meets the minimum operating system requirements and I'd recommend to verify the settings to receive notifications.

Thanks for checking community posts GraceGFitbit

Does Fitbit checks for complains about Android App problems/bugs? Where bugs can be reported?

It looks like Fitbit always tell about improvements, but nothing about fixing annoying bugs. Could you please tell what should we do when we see problem/bug?

Thanks,

Thanks a bunch for the long comment.

I am sure it will help those with similar problems on Android phones.

I‘ll stay with the iPad app for the next few weeks. Wasted too much time on getting things to work on Android. But I appreciate the effort by Fitbit. Thank you!

    Hi,

My Versa is working, syncing with Oneplus 6. Bugs reported still present, but not really breaking (I hope) anything, only annoying. I have noticed some inconsistency in time it take to sync data form time to time (or from phone reboot to next reboot), but nothing more so far.

30 days passed and I have started to see sync problems. Looks like data storage cleanup is not properly working as after 30 days it might need to free some space for new data.

Also bluetooth on Versa got crazy - phone shows Versa as connected, but no notification getting to Versa, nor sync. Graceful shutdown of Versa did nothing to fix it - phone still shows Versa as connected and no communication.

Reset of Versa and restart of phone cleared problem. (at least for today)

So firmware on Versa has problems 😞 and no bug tracker...

@DaAQVWwV hmm You mean factory reset. Simple unpairing, reboot and clearing of the cache work for me. Actually, I rarely need to clear the cache. On my old OP3T I keep 2.74.2 version as I find it to work best. On all other devices, 2.87. hmmm

Factory reset means 3 buttons reset, right? I was using 2 buttons reset, left + bottom-right. Graceful reboot - go to settings on Versa and select Shutdown. After watch gets off, turn it on again.

Simple unpairing just looks simple but takes time and if 2 button reset + phone restart do the trick - it is faster and easier (for me at least) and I would start from this. Unpair and re-pair would be next step if first is not working

    Thanks,

    Best Answer

@DaAQVWwV yes, 2 buttons means regular reboot. By unpairing I simply meant forgetting Versa as Bluetooth device. Back when OP3T was my primary device, I found out that rebooting both devices was not always enough.

Agree, Looks like it. I have feeling that Bluetooth implementation on Versa is not fully according to spec. Since I got Versa I'm getting more problems with Bluetooth and looks like best way to postpone problem visibility is to reboot both devices. If that does not help - follow your advise of unpair - pair again.

    Will continue monitoring.

    Hi all,

I am trying to connect my Fitbit Versa to my new OnePlus 6 phone. When I just got it it connected and synced, but after the first sync it didn't work anymore. I restarted the bluetooth, reinstalled the app, restarted the Versa and now did a factory reset with the versa. Now the watch won't connect to the phone at all. It says the device was found, and then I get a notification that there is a bluetooth problem. Now the watch doesn't do anything, since I did a factory reset it just keeps saying to connect it with the ap

Can anyone help? With my OnePlus X it worked fine....

    Kind regards,

Hello @AnniekJose I hope you're doing well, it's nice to see you around the Fitbit Community.

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for joining the conversation. Thanks for letting us know the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far. Please note that after a factory reset you will need to set up your Versa as a new device.

As you're getting a message saying there's a Bluetooth problem, please try the following:

    1. Go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone and check if your tracker is on the list of paired devices. If it is, tap on it and select Forget this Device.
    2. Set up your Versa as a new device:
      1. Open the Fitbit app and tap on the Account symbol at the top right corner of the screen, then tap on "Set up a New Device"
      2. Choose your tracker and follow the onscreen instructions to continue
      3. When the app asks you to replace your current tracker, please replace it and continue with the process.
      4. When a pop-up appears asking you to Pair your tracker to your device, tap on Pair and continue.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, give this a try and let us know the outcome.

I have tried everything described here. Eventually, I was able to make it work by re-adding the Fitbit to my account.

That being said, connecting to Bluetooth or to Wifi is such an issue. It is a joke that everything is always running smoothly with iOS devices but not for Android. Please support your customers and make everything work for all devices.
