Understanding calories left

I just started wearing my Fitbit Versa and I don’t understand the “calories left”.  I have been using myfitnesspal and am still using the app simultaneously. The apps are synched, both set to the same weight loss goal, same foods logged, and myfitnesspal is set to reduce my calories left based on information from Fitbit.

My Fitbit app tells me I have 112 calories left to eat today.

myfitnesspal tells me I have 734 calores left to eat today.

both apps aren’t using the same goals, food information, and calories burned information from fitbit and synching frequently.

Why are these estimates so different?

I would like to be a blue to rely on the calories left to earn in the app I’m using to plan my meals. Right I don’t know which is accurate. I am accustomed to using myfitnesspal and I’m not sure about the Fitbit app’s utility’s for planning my meals.

thank you!

For the calories left to eat tile, Fitbit uses an average of your daily expenditure as the starting point. It then notes the time of day you are checking and estimates how many more calories you will spend for the rest of the day. So your current expenditure plus the estimated expenditure will be assumed to be your total calorie expenditure for that day. It then subtracts out your intake calories and your calorie deficit goal to give you an estimate of remaining calorie intake for the day.

Some additional notes:

1. I have noticed that sometimes Fitbit will pull meal calories twice from MFP. Check the food tile in Fitbit to make sure this has not happened. If it has, just erase one of those meals.

2. After using Fitbit for a while you should have a good idea of your typical daily calorie expenditure (not counting unusual days like running a marathon or clearing brush by hand, ...). I suggest using that as your guide to the calorie intake that you can have to meet your goals.

I have read explanations of the calories burned vs calories left and it is still confusing. To me, it sounds like Fitbit should come up with a more user friendly description of these!
