Versa 2 Steps Are Less if You Are Pushing a Stroller

This is just an FYI because my husband and I noticed that when walking the same route together, our step count was dramatically different. He usually had around 1000 more steps, which baffled us. We calculated stride length for each of us, and yes that made a minor difference. However, when thinking about how one step is usually counted by the sway of ones arm... I wondered if my steps were even counted if my arms weren't swinging - because of pushing the baby stroller. So we switched for one of our walks and he pushed the stroller. sure enough, his steps totaled significantly less than mine.

So just a heads up for when you are pushing a stroller, or carrying a baby, or a football, or your coffee. You probably walked more than you get credit for.

You are correct.  That is a common observation, greatly reduced step count when pushing baby carriage or shopping cart, or holding hand rail on treadmill.  At least your calorie count, based on heart rate, should be correct.  If steps/distance is more important to you, you can put fitbit in pocket and probably get better step count, but lose out on heart rate data.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

That's because the arm with your FB is not swinging.  Arm motioncauses steps to track.  Try putting it on yourvankle.
