Versa 2 Steps Reduce When Adding Exercise

Hello, I recently upgraded from a Charge 3 to a Versa 2.  I went for a 45-min (2 mile) walk today.  The Versa 2, did not auto-recognize my exercise, but I believe the step count was accurate.  I tried updating the exercise data on the FitBit app.  When I did this, it cut my steps nearly in half (from 6,000+ down to 3,000).  I'm certain that the 6K steps is more accurate because this isn't the only walking I have done today.  Any ideas on why this happened and how to correct it?  Thanks in advance!

You say you "tried updating the exercise data on the FitBit app".

If you mean you manually logged the workout, that overrides any data that was actually recorded, replacing it with whatever it gets from the  parameters you logged.

Manually logging a workout is generally only meant for a time when you were not wearing the tracker.  Hopefully the walk gets auto-recognized, but even if not, all the daily totals get added in, just not that you did a "workout".

The safer thing is to use the exercise app to mark the start and end of workout, rather than relying on auto-exercise.  Then  you never have to log a workout and you always get it credited as an exercise session.
