I have the always on display and wake gesture active and when waking by raising my wrist, it doesn't behave as I expected.
I thought the wake would turn on the regular clock face. What it actually does is brighten the always on display. To see the regular clock, I still have to tap the screen or press the button.
With the AOD set to off, the wake does bring up the regular clock face.
I presume this is working as designed, but it would be nice to have an option to bring up the normal clock face.

I turned the AOD off for that reason. Wish it would work with the AOD feature on.

I don't think this is working as designed. It is a bug. There are two options. Manual or auto. It should function the same regardless of always on enabled. If I wanted to press a button with always on enabled I would set it to manual.

I agree with that. I like to have the Spotify app open and connected, so I can see the artist and title of what I'm listening, just by rising my wrist. But if I turn AOD on, I have to push the button or double tap the screen.
How can we vote for a change on this feature?

Have this issue as well.

The only reason I can think of for this bad behavior, is to conserve power when AOD is on, and be able to reach the announced "5 days battery". Even in that case, it is the user who must make that decision, not the clock.
I want AOD, and I want wrist gesture to switch screen on, as announced.
Please all vote the first post.

same here, just bought it yesterday and having same behavior, it just brightens the b/w display and never shows the actual watch face till i tap it (pretty hard two times - a simple touch doesn't wake it).
Returning it, its deal breaker for me.

FYI... They fixed this with the December update I just received. Works great now. Hopefully doesn't impact battery life too much

yes! it was fixed with the update last week, I noticed it because when there is an app open (like the Spotify controller i like), the AOD screen does not show the normal screen, but a small clock (maybe to conserve battery), and the wake gesture shows the app, just as expected 😄
Thanks Fitbit!!
