Versa 3 won't charge

My versa 3 connects to the charger, buzzes and then disconnects.

  • Physically taking the charger off and on again produces the same result - short connection then nope.
  • If it stays on for more than a second, I get the slow charging notification (rare)
  • The same result is achieved with both a wall plug and USB charger
  • The watch back and pins are clean.
  • Watch has been restarted, which made no difference to charger connection/disconnection
  • Tried a factory reset - watch cheerfully and quickly charged to 100% during the time it took to reset.
  • 1 day later, same issue, factory reset worked again.
  • 1 day later (1/9) after an android update (dated 18 August) I tried holding the watch while it charged.
  • Jiggling it to reconnect over half an hour gave some charge, while watch restarted several times spontaneously.
  • Got to 100%, then went back down to 70% within half an hour of no use.

The fact it's charging during the factory reset makes me think it's a software issue. Any suggestions?

(I'm working with an android and Fitbit firmware v 36.128.6.1)

Hi there, @BuJ. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post and trying to troubleshoot the issue with your Versa 3 before reaching out. I understand where your concern is coming from.

If you haven't done so yet, I suggest trying the following:

  • Clean the charging contacts on the back of your device and the pins on your charging cable using the instructions in How do I clean my Fitbit device?
  • If the error "insufficient power source" appears on your device's screen, remove other devices plugged in to your power source, or plug your device in to another source.
  • Try a different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.
  • Check the alignment and try reconnecting your device to the charging cable. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  • Restart your Fitbit once again. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?

Hope that helps.

I have followed all those steps before posting.

Looking at other posts made since mine, it looks like it is not just me and there is no solution to the software issue. Can anyone suggest otherwise?

[Update: attached the watch to charger and powered down. Will charge slowly while switched off. Not helping with dark suspicions of planned obsolescence shenanigans]
