Versa Erroneously Recording Steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have now had an original Versa and a replacement Versa from Fitbit because of the following problem: from midnight to 12:30 AM, they both register over 1,000 steps without me moving at all (I am actually sitting still, watching TV).  This is more than a coincidence and makes me believe that there is something inherently wrong with the device.  Maybe it has something to do with the firmware update that seems to be required as part of the initial setup; maybe there is a glitch in the update itself?  Has anyone else had this problem?  And if yes, how, if at all, was it resolved?

hello bearcat!
I've actually just logged onto the forums because my fitbit just gave me a "congrats" flash for achieving my 250 steps this hour. I've been sitting in front my macbook working for the last 30 minutes Woman Frustrated  I don't think I am particularly over animated when I type either... Just sitting here (maybe pushing my chair back occasionally).
Sooo~ something is up with the hardware or firmware. I'm going to agree with you and lean to software/firmware because it only seems to be a recent thing for me (over the last 10 days or so). I'm not sure if my versa did an update I didn't notice...
Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know this is happening to someone else and we're seeking answers!

Thank you. Glad I am not alone. I have been back and forth with their customer support for weeks now, since I got the Versa, and they have not been terribly helpful, other than offering to send me replacements, which have the same problem. I have even tried doing a factory reset, but that didn’t help either.

Hey bearcat... a thought occurred to me while reading the forums for issues that involve "Counting steps" when not moving.   I noticed a lot of the users that resolve their steps being counted at night while sleeping  issues have one thing in common: vibration.  A fan vibrating the desk, or some other electronic device causing some small vibration which caused the versa to count steps.

Are you a leg-bouncer?    I know I am... If I'm sitting at my desk working / reading / gaming, I know for a fact that my leg is bouncing 100 MPH more often than not!!! it made me wonder if my constant leg bouncing was occasionally confusing my Versa. Woman Mad

I tested this while my leg was doing its usual incessant bounce... as soon as I laid my hand on my thigh or sometimes away from the steadying desk / keyboard, it started counting steps!!!! Smiley Surprised I guess the Versa thinks I'm standing in place running!! LOL Smiley LOL

None of these possibilities seem to apply to my situation. My Versa can go from 0 to over 1800 steps from Midnight to 12:30 AM while I am sitting on the sofa watching TV. My arms generally don’t move much, and there is nothing vibrating nearby.

I already have (it was brand new), and the replacement watch acted in the exact same way. I just think that Fitbit is producing faulty watches. I never had any problems with my Charge 2.
