Versa counting extra steps

I just got my Versa yesterday and had been anticipating its arrival. It is so pretty and fits my wrist well.  My husband bought it for me for my upcoming birthday. It's expensive for us, so I also used gift cards I had saved to contribute to the purchase. I notice right away that it was much more sensitive than my Charge HR 2.

This morning, just getting ready for work, it counted over 750 steps... it is counting hair brushing, washing dishes, brushing teeth, etc. I really love the other features of the watch, but the step count issue is important to me. It will increase activity, calories, etc. For $200, this may be a deal-breaker. I don't want to return it. Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity? I never had to worry about this with my Garmin Vivosmart HR or my Fitbit HR Charge 2.

It's great to see you around @EBaby.

Factors such as tracker placement, dominant or non-dominant wrist, and stride length can all affect the number of steps recorded. If you haven't already read our information and tips about improving accuracy, I recommend checking the help article How accurate are Fitbit devices?.

If you think that the accuracy isn't really working, I suggest checking how many steps you have so far, walk 100 steps and see how many it registered.

Let me know the outcome. Man Happy

Hi. Thanks for your message! Yup—I‘ve checked out the tips and do all of the recommendations. It is quite accurate when walking or running, which is awesome. The issue is it counting steps during non-exercise activities. I have had two other Fitbit devices and have not had that problem before to this degree. I do have it placed correctly. I’ve had to remove it during my morning routine. The steps count is much more accurate when I take it off during those times. I also powered it all the way down and back up. That seemed to make a slight difference, but I still have to remove it during certain times to make the steps count more accurate, which is a bit of a bummer. Anyway, I’ll hang onto it and give it some more time to see if it evens out. I really love everything else about it.

Yeap i have the exact same problem. I first noticed it on driving. I don't even move my hand but it records steps on every little bump on the pavement. And there are lots of them!

So i started taking closer looks. Even washing my face, brushing hair... Any movement records steps.

With the sensors on the watch it should be very easy to distinguish vertical or random movements from walking, but no.

Hi oll_Gi.  Sorry you  are also having these issues. I luckily have not had the steps counted while driving; that would be annoying! I have noticed some improvement since powering my device down and back up. I've gotten to where I just take it off when I'm getting ready.  I agree, the watch sensors should be able to distinguish the types of movement a bit better.  Have you tried powering down? Cheers.
