Versa display too bright

Just set up my Versa and the screen is too bright, the background is grey not black?

any ideas or is it to be sent back?

You can adjust brightness (between dim, normal, max, or auto) in the settings app on the device. I generally keep mine on auto so that it's responsive to the light around me, but you can put it on a manual setting if you're finding it too bright generally.

Ive moved it from auto to manual but it’s still grey, nothing like the image in the adverts that show a black background?

The background is a function of the clock face.  There are many clock faces to choose from.  Some, I'm sure,  that allow you to change the background and/or background color.
