Twice in the past week , the exercise app on my Veras has quit/crashed mid run.
I’m running the latest firm are
Both times it’s tracked 30 or 40 minutes, then next time I looked at the watch it’s back at the watch face screen.
Restarting th exercise app starts tracking a new activity.
Looking in the app on my phone I see two activities: the first part of the run up to the point it stopped tracking, and the second part of the run from when I restarted the exercise app tracking. But I have a sizable gap in between the two.
Known issue?
Workarounds?
Any way to get crash logs or diagnostics off the watch to help troubleshooting?

So, I'm pretty settled on the solution. I have not had a single crash during a run since I turned off all day sync. That was about six weeks ago and I have been running 4 or 5 days a week since then...

I am having a similar issue and frustrated to the extreme. Mine stops tracking after the first mile, without fail, EVERY time. I have for years been using an app on my phone for run stats/tracking but am tiring of the double tracking that I have to do thanks to the inconsistencies here.
I too would love to know of any solutions or workarounds.

This happens to me, too, but only during elliptical exercise. One time it crashed after 14 min and change, another time it crashed after 28 min and change. One time it didn't crash. In all cases I have been listening to music from the Versa. Power has been in the 70-80-90% range. When it happens, the music stops and I am staring at a fitbit logo. It doesn't happen with other exercise types.
After a couple of minutes it reboots (and the Android app seems to recover a lot of the exercise session.)
But, this is frustrating, and it shouldn't happen.

It happened again while I was running this morning. That’s 3 time’s out of 8 that I’ve been running and it’s failed.
This morning it it seemed to be happily tracking me for a mile and a half, then next time I looked at the watch (about half a mile later) it was back at the watchface again and I had to restart the exercise tracking.
Sounds from the replies above that this is not an isolated issue....

Did it again yesterday. That's 4 times out of 11 runs that its stopped tracking mid-run... 😞

This is a continued issue for me as well, regardless of whether I am using connected GPS or not. Mind you, I don't have this issue with any other Exercise I use...only the Run.

I've had it crash out once during a bike ride with connected GPS and once during an elliptical session. The bike ride it captured the exercise as complete (before the crash), the elliptical session before the crash disappeared entirely.

Same here - mid exercise crashes with Bike and Walk. Happens almost every 2nd time I use.

Happens on almost half my runs, and this is a brand new replacement Versa (old one had this issue AND logged phantom steps). Always after the first mile, and this morning happened a second time after I restarted the app.

I don’t think I could ever do that! I’m too obsessed with steps and would never remember to sync. I’m wondering whether it would help to have auto-detect turned on. I turned it off because it kicked in when I was walking vs. running.

I turned off auto-detect soon after receiving my Versa and it still crashed. It seems to be turning off the auto-syncing that's fixed it for me.

Seems like a software bug that needs to get fixed to me. This has happened 3 times to me now. I did disable the auto-start feature for exercises as well. I have not tried to disable all-day sync yet. I will try that next. There is also an "auto pause" feature that I am disabling as well.
I would advise FitBit to fix these issues as it does not bode well to have so many "phantom stops" for exercising when the whole point of owning a FitBit watch is to exercise with it.

I’m new to my Versa and I’m wondering if people are still having this problem....

Yes, i have this issue as well. I have tried to self-fix as per instructions but to no avail. This morning with swimming (after 2 minutes) and a number of times whilst in weights mode. Have contacted fitbit support and await their reply.

Mine has been doing this for every workout lately. Never at the same intervals. Sometimes it will last for a whole 45 min workout or quit after 10 mins. Today it stopped in the middle of my intervals and I didn't know which on I was on....I restarted it completely then restarted the workout and it crashed 4 minutes later. I may as well go back to carrying my clip on timer if this keeps up.
It's also a pain bc the fitbit syncs with WW and I need to get my fitpoints 🙂

Please keep us posted on this! I was going to contact them as well but would like to see what they tell you first. I'm about to get rid of my watch since it can't do basic tasks (It's also having issue with getting notifications...that's a problem for another day)

So... how do you do this...?

You do like I did a year ago....you get frustrated beyond belief, return the Fitbit versa within the 45 day return window, and then you buy an Apple Watch and never have this problem again.

Happened to me this morning, first run with Versa 3 so quite disappointing. It stopped tracking after 2.97 km.
I'll try switching off all day sync, but really should that make a difference? I wanted the on board GPS, that's why I upgraded from versa 2.
