Is there a way to get the Versa to measure distance and track when kayaking?

Hi @Pgilbk,

If you log it in the Exercise app as Run, it will give you distance.

I tried to start the “run” feature when I went kayaking, and every time I paused in paddling, the Fitbit would vibrate and start ‘searching’. Since we paddle and then glide and sometimes pause to look at wildlife, the run feature didn’t work very well. Since Fitbit is on the wrist, it seems they could figure out how to measure strokes as steps or give distance for paddling sports - kayaking, rowing, canoeing, paddle boarding - all popular sports.

I tried using the "run' feature when kayaking yesterday. It didn't work very well since it paused every time I stopped paddling. Then it was searching. Each time I paused my paddle, my Fitbit vibrated. Kayaking isn't like running in that we are not continuously paddling. We take some strokes and then glide through the water. We pause to look at wildlife. It seems, since Fitbit is on the wrist, and paddling involves movement of the arm, they could figure out how to measure number of strokes (like steps) and distance. One exercise could cover many paddling sports - kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, rowing. I hope they add an appropriate exercise choice because while paddling for 2 1/2 hours, I don't like to receive a notification that I should "get up and move". 😉

I have had good luck using the elliptical when kayaking or swimming because you're just using your arms is better

Choose swimming or elliptical are the best two I've used swimming because using my arms I figured was better than elliptical
