Have changed swim settings from 25 to 50 m but this is not being saved by the app. Any help? Versa is also not auto-recognizing biking.

About the auto recognizing issue, I recommend restarting your Versa. If your swim information isn't saving, please verify that your watch is properly syncing, if it isn't follow the instructions provide in the help article Why won't my Fitbit device sync?.

I seem to have managed to sort the pool length setting. Now the Versa is failing to auto recognise swimming and recorded my hour-long pool session this evening as 37 minutes of "aerobic workout". Yesterday it recorded my hike (7 km) but the path shown on the map of the hike stopped halfway.  I will bike morning and evening for around 40 mins tomorrow. I'll let you know how that goes.....  FYI have restarted Versa and phone a couple of times.
