Hi @ChuckGard - yes this is possible.
Pull down from the top edge of the watch face once and again and click on the 2 white bars to get to Quick Settings and disable the Always On icon, and enable the wrist [watch] icon.
Then when you raise your arm to look at the watch you will see your watch face and after 10 seconds or so it will blank to save battery.
