no BPM on versa

I have tried the fixes suggested on this forum (hard reset, making sure heart monitor is set to on, cleaning back of watch)but I cannot get the BPM reading to come back...there is no laser light on the back of watch.  This feature is one of the most important ones for me.  How can I resolve this?
