Ability to change daily goals without changing all past days

We should be able to change our goals without changing all of our past goals.
For example, on holiday break I was happy to lower my goal to 5,000 steps. Or converter, some days I want to do more and want to up my goal to 15,000 or even 20,000...but then It changes all the past days.

FitBit customer service suggested I post my feedback here but I see that customers have requested the same enhancement literally for 5 years to no avail. It’s unfortunate that FitBit developers are so unresponsive to its customers. Nevertheless, since I’ve already typed and copied my comments, I’ll post them as a gentle reminder to FitBit developers why we purchase these devices:

All of my goal stars for the month of December were removed when I increased my step goal to 10.5K in January.   At this time, modifying daily step goals affects totals retroactively into the future. It sounds trivial but the HISTORY of consistently meeting my daily goal is incredibly motivating to look back on, especially when I just don’t feel I have it in me to push through fatigue. I can visually SEE that regardless of how I felt, I still was able to meet my goal in the past, so I can do it today and tomorrow and going forward. Please seriously consider modifications which keep keep goal stars permanent rather than retroactively changing them when a goal is increased. The entire point of FitBit tracker is to help consumers increase their activity levels. Motivation is an incredibly important aspect of incrementally increasing activity.

Hello thanks for a great product, I have two very simple suggestions that I think could make a great difference to how people can track their progress.

1.

The first is to allow us to modify the date associated with when we set our Goal / Target weight.

This would really be great to let us track the number of kg / amount of fat lost from a different date than when we set the target.

For example, I started tracking my weight loss on Jan 2, but I didn't change my goal in FitBit until Jan 16. Within those two weeks I lost over 2 kg. So though I have lost over 5kg now, the website shows a loss of only 3.5kg. I also want to set my target/goal weight a little bit lower, but if I do that, I think my progression within the web site will get set back to zero!

For example, I would like to set my goal lower, but have the associated date set back to Jan 2 so that it is still tracking how much I have lost since then - not since the date I modified the goal.

2.

The second suggestion is, within the Weight page, please add a chart which has a line for body fat mass, for people who are focused more on fat loss than on overall weight loss. You currently have three charts - one of them shows Total Body Weight and Lean Mass, with the Fat Mass being the blue section between the two lines. You can kind of see the fat mass reducing as the blue section gets skinnier, however this isn't ideal for tracking fat loss. If you could copy the  Weight/Lean-Mass chart and make a Weight/Fat-Mass chart (so that the Fat is tracked as a line) this would greatly help in the motivation - to be able to visually see how fast the fat line is getting lower.

This would be one chart added extremely similar to the one that is there and that would be of greater help to people who's main focus is on the fat.

Thanks for considering my suggestions!

Hi @SunsetRunner! Great suggestion, thanks for sharing your idea. I've moved it into a similar request. I think that you would like to check this other suggestion: Scalable charts. You can learn more about how Fitbit decides what suggestions get released in our FAQs.

If you think that this is not exactly what you're asking for, please repost your other ideas as individual Feature Suggestions by clicking ‘Add New Suggestion’.

So, moved yet again. At least the third time this year.
I think you people keep moving it to keep it from gaining any votes.
This customer request has been requested for the last 5 years.
Forget it. I’ve moved on and I no longer respect Fitbit as a customer-oriented company.

I definitely echo the other sentiments here. I would like the ability to set a regular rest day relieving me of the guilt of not hitting my daily goal or be prompted to move every hour.

Looks like we are getting new product, but no improvements in software 😖

Hi, I am new to this forum and new to Fitbit, I picked up an Ionic, which so far I really like.  I had a question about the daily goals.  Is it possible to have different goals for weekdays vs weekend, I work a lot and my weekdays are hard to be active all day, but I am very active on a weekend so those goals are super easy on these days, so it makes sense to me to have a much higher targets on a weekend.

I was told this is not possible on another thread and it kind of surprised me.  This seems like such an obvious feature to have a mon>sun calendar and you can set variable goals based on a weekly routine.

Please add this feature.

Yes, you too can add your voice to five+ years of voices and people advocating for this change just for the privilege of being ignored. Congrats!

I agree. The app needs flexibility.

@Molly10 Yes.  Exactly that.  You too can be ignored over something which is completely common sense and should have been implemented from the start.  I mean, let's face it...if real life worked the way this app does (changing your goal changes all your goals retroactively into the past)...all you'd have to do was diet for one day, then it would retroactively apply to your entire life, and you'd never have gained the weight in the first place. 😆

It would be a great change if goals could be changed either for a specific time or just prospectively.  I recently had surgery and my normal goal was completely out of my reach so I reset it to more reasonably track my progress.  Once I was able to reset to a higher goal, because it changed everything retroactively to the new goal, it looked as if I wasn't anywhere close to meeting my goal.  And it will happen again when I reset back to my original goal.

It doesn't seem unreasonable to be able to reset goals for a specific time period without having it all change every time the goal updates.

It's also more encouraging to be able to actually meet goals, and show that the goals are increasing, as we make progress, not just in recovery mode, but also as we progress on our fitness journey.

You apparently decided to 'consider' this suggestion 5 years ago. You should stop wasting the time of your customers by pretending that you'll improve a single thing, because the facts are that for 5 years you choose not to implement the most basic functionality. That's 5 years your customers have had a substandard experience with your product. All you care about is marketing and selling to new customers, but once a customer has spent money on your product, they discover that in almost every aspect, it doesn't quite do the job well enough, your site never quite is satisfactory with helping them set goals or visualise or track their progress, and you just, don't, care. Your taking of 'suggestions' is a fraud.

I’m replacing my Fitbit with another device and tell everyone I know not to get a Fitbit for the very reasons you posted.

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed it's been five years since many, many, many,
people have brought this up. I doubt I'm getting another one.

You must be having a bad Monday/Week/Month/Year... have you seen the number
of suggestions that they get every hour? Yeah it can be frustrating when
something that seems so simple to us is not implemented, but the fact of
the matter is that people continue to upgrade their items because they are
happy with the service and if you arent then I am sure they would rather
not have your business! Reflect on your life and find something good in it
otherwise you will be miserable over the little things (i.e. a function on
an app of a product that you clearly don't care for.)

Maybe you should read what I posted again. You're the one who seems to be
creating an emotional attachment to it.

It's a device. If it doesn't do what I need I look for a different device.
I flip brands constantly when there's healthy competition if someone else
makes something that serves my needs better. To stick to one brand of
loyalty is a pretty dumb move. Companies don't care about your emotional
well being, they care about if they're making the amount of money they
expect considering the resources put into it.

The only problem in this case is that om not sure anyone has the features I
want. But if it's clear that this company has no intention of building it
into their system, I have a better chance of finding it by looking
elsewhere.

This is a site for feedback about items. I don't appreciate members using this board to make judgments about people who write in to make suggestions. This is the first time in all of these suggestions that I've seen it happen. That is what this site is for KGadway; this is a feedback site. Pretty condescending to suggest that people, "reflect on their life" for writing it.

KGadway, you are missing something very important here. We should not have to suggest this at all! A Fitness tracker should not change all of your previous data if you change a goal. It defeats the very purpose of the device.

We are basically asking for a bug to be fixed and people have been waiting years for it.
