Ability to change daily goals without changing all past days

We should be able to change our goals without changing all of our past goals.
For example, on holiday break I was happy to lower my goal to 5,000 steps. Or converter, some days I want to do more and want to up my goal to 15,000 or even 20,000...but then It changes all the past days.

I spoke too soo! Apparently I did not give my Fitbit time to sync. Now the past achievements are GONE!

Fitbit, PLEASE CHANGE THIS!

Yeah, still not working for me

I agree completely. It's why I found this thread. Part of health and fitness is taking rest days. Rest days when completely healthy and rest days when we're sick or injured.

I think we should be able to set different goals for different days. (I'm actually more active during the week and would like to rest more on the weekend.) And it should be locked in once we achieve a goal - it's acheived! I would think there's more "strain" on FitBit's system to go back and change all previous data because we changed a future goal. It makes no sense to me.

And, as you pointed out, a fitness tracker should encourage us to increase our goals over time. (I've heard that a good rule of thumb is to increase goals by 10-20% for the next week.) I just got my FitBit a week ago and have already decided to just keep my goals as is and memorize new goal thresholds and keep track elsewhere becuase I don't want to lose my green boards and stars - and that's pretty ridiculous!

I hope FitBit changes this fast. I would think it to be quite a simple change. Like I said, it seems like it's worse for FitBit to keep it as is and constantly change everyone's preivous data instead of locking that in and never having to worry about it again. Plus, that's what we, the user, want!

I totally have tracker guilt already! Thank you, Minkah, for suggesting a new user set ourselves up to just take that rest day even though it screws up our stats. Until FitBit makes this change, I'm going to have to do just that. FitBit would be wise to change this becuase it's pretty discouraging and when people are discouraged, they stop using the product or recommending it.

I'm looking forwrad to this important change! I also hope FitBit is listening!

I love/need this ability. I would go further and ask Fitbit to let us customize our goals. For example, on Tuesdays, I have a two-hour meeting. I can't really get up and walk around the tiny room, squeezing behind everyone's chairs going around the table a few dozen times each hour. I'd like to be able to set up my Fitbit 250-step-each-hour goal for Tuesdays to not include those particular two hours.

I'd even like to have labels I can choose from for any of/all the goals. Like "Sick Days" and click to use that goal as necessary. So, I'd love seven labels for each day of the week that I can customize the goals. Then have a "Sick Day" goal and "Vacation Day" and "Rest Day" and whatever else I might want to come up with. Just total customization for us to rest as necessary and be able to meet our goals and increase our goals without losing our green boards on previous days.

I think total customization would meet a lot of the feature requests on this board. There are night workers, weekend workers, people active and walking at work who might choose to rest on the weekend and vice versa and so on and so on. Instead of Fitbit trying to implement a whole bunch of new features, if you just let us customize all of our goals as we see fit - and give us the option of labels/categories to choose from, it would take a lot of the stress off of you and make your customers very, very happy. Thank you!

Fitbit, PLEASE make this happen on the next update! It's so important. You provide a fitness motivator and this has got to be the worst plan ever! Once we reach a goal, it should be locked in forever. Why on earth would past weeks ofoury green board/stars be erased because we built our bodies up to reach higher limits?

Please listen to your customers (some of whom are leaving, buying from your competitors and no longer recommending your products) and make this important change.

I so agree. I stopped using my Fitbit. I got frustrated with losing my data and finally just took it off and threw it in a drawer!

Absolutely spot on, agree with this suggestion - has fitbit come back with any news on this?  I see the OP was in 2014, and it's still an issue.

Like others have said, it's disheartening to see your stats suddenly going into the red when you make the slightest change to weight goals.  For something that's supposed to be motivating, THAT is not.

I should mention that I'm referring to calories in versus calories out here.

Nothing done yet - this has increasingly become a frustration for many Fitbit users. Not sure if other products are the same.

As a recent switcher from Garmin to a FitBit Blaze, one thing I have missed is having my Daily Step Goal automatically generated based on the previous days efforts rather than having to set it to one standing amount that is repeated daily.

For instance if on day one I walked 14,000 steps, then on day two my FitBit would have automatically increased the step amount by a set percentage (less than 5% I'd guess based on some kind of algorithm).

If I met the target the next day, then the amount would increase again. If I failed to miss the target then the next days total would be slightly lower and if I didn't hit that the day after then it would decrease again.

I think this would be a good idea to implement and hope fellow users do to. Get voting!

Is this going to be sorted at any point? "Reviewed by moderator" 2014, and nothing since.

This is annoying af. what good are goals if you can't increase them without affecting prior goal statuses? Upping my step count shouldn't penalize my previous accomplishments. Previous stats should lock and should be relative to their respective goals at the time period.

This is such an important thing for me! When I first got my fit bit I was doing maybe 2500 steps today. I set my goal to 4000 and was quickly able to reach it. I felt like a success. Then I raised the goal to 5000 and now I look back at what I thought was success but it shows I'm a failure 😞 since I lost many of my achievement stars.
Please correct this in your programming so I can keep striving for greater success without refusing to up my goal .

Thank you Susan for responding. That is exactly how I felt and why I wrote the post. I mentally upped my targets so I wouldn't loose my green stars but I would prefer to be able to actually reset them. Again, I hope Fitbit will take note.

I'd like to be able to have a higher step target for during the week but go easier on myself at the weekends without having to switch it back and forth every few days. I have friends who'd like the same feature for the opposite reason as they use their weekends do do endless sporty activities but can't get away from their desks much during the week.

I would love to be able to set different step goals for the weekend, my running days during the week and my office (sedentary days).  Currently my step goal is 12,000 steps a day. On days I'm mostly in the office sitting, the fitbit is great in encouraging me to figure out how to fit extra steps into my day. Hwoever, on days I run before work, I typically hit 12,000 steps (or very close to it) but 9 AM so I have little incentive to continue to work on steps the rest of the day. I'd love to be able to adjust goals from day to day so I could continue to get the encouragement to get more steps these days once I am in the office.

Amen to all of your comments, I totally agree.
I started really slow, because of arthritis I have been sedentary. I ha very become more active trying to lose weight and build muscle before double knee and hip replacement, but feel like a failure when I lose my stars. Guess there is still a lot of kid in this old Gail still. I always loved getting those stars in that one room school (complete with out houses and pails of water with dippers for drinking ) That I attended as a kid! I put off increasing my goal sometimesetting just because I don'the want to lose my stars!

Hi Vampie26.
I guess we all have the kid inside who wants the reward for their achievements 😀 I've upped my targets in my head so I don't loose my green stars. For everything else, I can't fault Fitbit. Recently I have had a problem with mine not syncing after an update. The customer service in my case was fantastic and I couldn't fault them.
If they would sort out the stars issue, it would be perfect for me.
Thank you for responding.

I do try to set goals in my head too, but on some days when I hurt really bad I have a tendency to just quit when I reach my set goal. Then I feel guilty for letting myself down. If it says it on the dashboard I AM GOING TO DO IT,except for last week when I had an injury. Better now and back at it!

I used to get tracker guilt if I didn't reach my targets. Now I've accepted that sometimes life / illness gets in the way and on those difficult days,I'm now happy that I achieved whatever I managed to achieve. Don't be too hard on yourself, I'm sure you are more active than you were before you got it? I know I am.

Hi Rosie Mckenzie, and thank you dear for those kind words. I guess it would be easier if I wasn't so competitive. Maybe it comes from being youngest of ten, lot of competition there!!! Still refusing to except I am getting old. lol Even my kids, who are grandparents, know better than to tell anyone that this great grandma is older than 27!!! lol Family Joke, and long story!!! Now if I could convince my body of that!!! haha

Wow. I had my hands full with four kids. I'm going to be great grandma for the first time in 6 weeks, exciting 😀 feel free to add me as a friend as I'd like to keep chatting to you. I tried to add you but it didn't work.
