Ability to delete old data on Fitbit

I would love to be able to delete old data on my account, from a period of time that I was without a Fitbit. I have at least 6 months of time with 0 steps/sleep because I didn't have a functioning Fitbit. It would be nice to be able to reset that without losing my account -- since I didn't think about this until 6 months after getting my new Fitbit. I don't want to lose the current data, but this long stretch with 0 steps is screwing up averages I feel.

Looking through other posts, it seems I'm not the only one that wants to be able to delete data without resetting/starting over with a new account.

My first charge 3 had bad bluetooth, wouldn't sync, got 30-day warrantied. Deleted phone app 3 weeks ago (s5, fully updated android 6.01). Deleted old device from web account. Want to start fresh because I didn't wear it much. Installed app from Play store today (latest ver.), somehow brought up old device's data? Device was deleted on web before app was reinstalled. Did app uninstall incorrectly, leaving it's db behind?

Chatted with customer service, they showed me how to delete the activities, sleep logs, etc on web. Bummed out can't delete records wholesale, had to delete individually.

Chatter said only other way is delete my account, takes 7 to 30 days and I can't use device. Deleting data wholesale isn't difficult, it's deliberate unwillingness by fitbit to implement. Your customers keep asking for this simple feature over and over, it's aggravating your customers, then why don't you do it? Where's your customer service?

Sorry for the rant, but every interaction I've had with fitbit has been worse than the one before.

@kirkhings. It really isn't the only other way.

Change your current registered email to something else. It could even be a made up email.

Once changed, create a new account under the same email.

If you haven't been wearing your Fitbit and have zero data or steps. Do you really have any data that can be deleted?

@Rich_Laue that is a great idea, haven't heard that anywhere else. I'll try it and let you know. Thanks!

I have several fit it accounts for testing and comparing trackers. I have also switched the registered emails around.

I would love to be able to choose how much historical data to keep, that is, how far back the records should go. There could be features like "delete all data but the last {30 / 60 / 90 / 180 / 365} days" and "only keep data from the last {30 / 60 / 90 / 180 / 365} days". Thank you! 🙂

Hi @SunsetRunner! Great suggestion, thanks for sharing your feedback. I've moved it into a similar request.  A lot of users are asking for this option, I hope we receive updates soon.

I was recently live chatting with customer support and I was trying to delete all of my previous account data. Unfortunately, I figured out I had to delete my account and wait 7 days to be able to use the same email again. I figured it wouldn't be convenient for me to do it that way and I'd have new data by then anyways. It would be cool if you could delete account tracker data without deleting your account. I have an Alta and I can't delete data from it unfortunately so I'd have to, in its current state delete my account and wait 7 days.

A feature to Reset all account data to zero but save friends list.  This would help with a few things including motivation and those of us that just need a fresh restart.  Earning badges again can help with motivation and keeping up with exercise.  Some of us don't care too much about the forever step logs but look more at the monthly, weekly or even daily log accomplishments.

I like the idea @SunsetRunner and it would be fun to start all over again, especially for those who have been stepping for a while. If you wanted, you could make a new account and start over, but you'd have to be able to get your friends list repeated. Could be an option if you needed to do it.

Add me to the list of people who'd love to see a feature like this. I changed to a Garmin device for almost a year, and now my step counts are all jacked because i have months and months of 0 step counts in my data, with no way to erase them. I'd love to just wipe everything up until I got my new Ionic.

Getting rid of past history should not be hard by deleting the Fitbit account.

Or change the associated email and then create a new account.

They aren't going to do it. They'll keep insisting feature exists, but it doesn't. They never link to the the specific feature request post that is marked with green checkmark, meaning approved. Closest was one thread where moderator or employee linked to the front page of feature requests, not the actual post.

I'm done with fitbit, it's never accurate. Laying on the couch watching a movie, it'll give me congratulations I did my 250 steps for the hour. Anyone want to buy my Charger 3? It's a warrantied replacement because the first one only synced about every 10 days.

Fitbit, send me an email when you start listening to your customers.

To protect from Google misusing our data we should be able to completely erase history from the servers, mere deletion of account is not sufficiently secure.

+1 on this. Once I export my account data, I want some measure of assurance that my deleted account will be fully deleted and irrecoverable by Google.

Im doing the same exporting my data and then deleting. why give this vile and disgusting company even more data?

Any ideas how long it takes to get the data? I requested it yesterday and still waiting....

This is the issue that will spell success or failure of this merger. How well we can protect OUR data from Google will decide for me whether I ditch my Ionic. Feeling cheated.

I've gone through many periods of using my Fitbit on and off. I would love a way to easily and quickly remove all of the data without deleting my account and having to wait for that information to be deleted from Fitbit's servers.

I know I can delete each weight log 1-by-1, however, this is way too time consuming and annoying. I'll do it because I want to start with a clean slate, but there really ought to be an easier way to start fresh with a clean slate with an existing account.

Perhaps a "Reset all user data" option?

From Fitbit main screen on app, and the arrow to the left of "Today", would be appreciated being able to remove all prior days and months listed.

Hi Yojana,

Appreciate the reply, but I need to know if all of the daily/monthly accumulations, take up storage space on the cell phone.  If so, Fitbit needs to address this for those that want to delete the data.  Or does it not utilize storage on the cell phone?  I don't need to save months and months of old data.
